Maurice Coen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 1, 2025.
Maurice Gene Coen passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2025 in Bonney Lake, Washington after a 15-year battle with Parkinson's disease facing his illness with grace and dignity.

Born December 30, 1941, to Maurine Ella Brown Coen and James Thornton Coen in Garden City, Kansas. A proud Eagle Scout, Maurice lived a life marked by leadership and innovation.

He married Janet Connors in 1961 and together they raised two sons, David Steven and Kirk William. After attending Wichita State University, Maurice began a long and distinguished career in the aerospace industry, contributing to major aircraft companies, military projects, and even the U.S. Space Program. In 1972, he returned to Garden City to help manage the family wheat farm and later founded NACO Industries, designing and patenting groundbreaking PVC products. His work created hundreds of jobs and advanced the industry significantly.

In 1984, he married Mary Ellen Belvill-Williams and was a stepfather to her sons, Jason Wesley Williams and Jeffrey David Williams.

Maurice's adventurous spirit carried into retirement when he purchased a historic home in Saint-Paul-le-Jeune, France - a place that brought him immense pride and joy. He lived a large and fulfilling life, devoted to family, work, and discovery.

He leaves behind his sons, David Steven (Geri) of Overland Park, Kansas; Kirk William (Lisa) Coen of Olathe, Kansas; his grandchildren, Steven Coen (Hayley), Daniel Coen (Sierra), Sarah Coen, Grace Coen (Santiago Vallejo), Madison Coen, and Piper Coen; stepsons Jason Williams (Shannon) of Bonney Lake and Jeff of Bonney Lake; five stepgrandchildren Finley Williams, Caiden Williams, Tristan Williams, Logan Williams, Riley Williams; and six great grandchildren.
