Maurice W. Grossenbacher 83, of New Milford, CT. passed away at home on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Maurice "Moe" was born September 20, 1931 son of the late Paul & Blanche Grossenbacher He graduated from New Milford High School Class of 1949. While a junior, he was named State Farmer of the Year and as a senior, was elected State Secretary of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He was elected State President of the FFA in 1950. After graduation, he owned a dairy farm and owned/operated two school buses for the Northville Area School. In 1953, he met the love of his life, Mary West of Ansonia Ct. They married in May of 1954. In 1956 he went to work for Ruwet-Sibley Corp of New Milford Where he worked for 40 years. In 1957, he was elected Master of the Pomperaug Grange, in Southbury, Ct. Moe's public service to his community started in 1962 being a founding member of the Northville Volunteer Fire Department, where he actively served in all capacities from President, to Fire Chief, and lastly as Fire Police. In 1975, he was elected to the New Milford Police Commission where he served two terms. He was a member of the New Milford Mens Booster Club in the 1970's and served as its President. Moe was a 35 year Chevron member of the New Milford Lions Club serving as President 1989-90 and received the prestigous Melvin Jones Fellow Award.Maurice is survived by his wife mary of 60 years, his son Thomas Grossenbacher & wife ,Judy Taylor of New Milford, son Robert Grossenbacher of New Milford, daughter Jill G Huzinec and husband, John of Downingtown PA., son David Grossenbacher and wife Renee Cull of New Milford, and 6 grandchildren; Erin, Taylor, Lauren, Evan, Matthew, and Sam and a great-grandson, Cameron & 21 nieces and nephew. He is also survived by his sister, Jacqueline Dooley of Roxbury. He is predeased by his brother, Paul Grossenbacher and sister, Denise Wagner. The family wishes to thank Danbury Hospital staff and New Milford VNA and Hospice for their care. Calling hours for family and friends will take place Monday, December 22, 4 PM to 8 PM at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 23 at 10 am at St Francis Xavier Church, 26 Chestnut Land Road, New Milford, Ct 06776. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Northville Fire Department, 355 Litchfield Road, New Milford, CT 06776 or New Milford Lions Club, P.O. Box 1212, New Milford, CT 06776
