Max Marquette Obituary

Aberdeen: Funeral service for Max K. Marquette, 84, Aberdeen, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, 502 South Lincoln St. Pastors Eldon Reich and Tom Haggar will officiate.

Following a time of fellowship and lunch, burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will precede the service for one hour.

Max K. Marquette was born in Davis, S.D., on Feb. 7, 1925. His parents were Frank B. Marquette and Fannie Knock Marquette. He attended school in Davis, S.D., and graduated in 1943. He entered the service in 1945 and served in the army as a sergeant in Okinawa. He later attended vo-tech school in Kansas City to learn about auto mechanics.

For a short time, he worked for the Turner County district as a heavy equipment operator. Later, Max began his career with Federal Soil Conservation Service serving in Plankinton then Woonsocket, Gettysburg and Ipswich. During his career Max received several service awards, including Outstanding Soil Conservation Technician of the Year.

Max met Marjorie Cochran in 1950 and they were married Aug. 31, 1952. They had two daughters, Lynn and Kristi. Max was an active member of the Methodist church. Over the years, he was a lay leader, a member of Methodist Men, anglers Sunday school and Stephen Ministries.

He was also a member of NARF, VFW and Senior Citizens. During his retirement, he enjoyed yard work, working on cars, playing pool at the senior center and spending time with family and friends. Max was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

His parents, three brothers and three sisters preceded Max in death.

Survivors include his wife, Marge Marquette, of Aberdeen, S.D.; daughters, Lynn (Kelly) Casey, of Flower Mound, Texas, Kristi (Larry) Simenson, of Bismarck, N.D. His grandchildren are Christopher and Jordan Casey and Sara and Lindsey Simenson. Other survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins.
