Max Mohler Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 11, 2024.
Max Lynn Mohler, age 86, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 17, 1937, in Troy, Ohio, Max lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and unwavering passion for his family, community, and the land he cherished.

Max was the beloved husband of Elaine Mohler (nee Dotson), with whom he shared over six decades of love and companionship since their marriage on August 30, 1959, in Union County, Ohio. He was the devoted son of Roy Lester Mohler and Helen Katherine (Minnich) Mohler, both of whom preceded him in death, and the cherished brother of the late Lowell Howard Mohler.

A man of great integrity and wisdom, Max leaves behind a legacy of love and service. He was a devoted father to his three daughters: Diana (and Michael) Kearns, Janice (and Robert) Speicher, and LuAnn McKenna. Max adored his grandchildren, Rebecca Pino, Austin McKenna, and Aydan Kearns, and found immense joy in their accomplishments and milestones. Max is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, who will deeply cherish his memory.

Max's educational journey began at Northwestern High School in Springfield, Ohio, where he graduated in 1955. A proud alumnus of The Ohio State University, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in 1959. Max's commitment to learning continued throughout his life, shaping his successful career and pioneering efforts in agriculture and environmental stewardship.

A true visionary in his field, Max dedicated himself to responsible farming techniques, advocating for no-till farming methods and pioneering water conservation programs. His impactful work extended beyond the farm as he served as a High School Teacher and FFA Advisor at Greenon High School in Enon, Ohio. Later, he held positions in sales management and agronomy at various esteemed companies, including the F.S. Royster Guano Company in Toledo, Ohio, and The Ohio Grain Company in Milford Center, Ohio, where he served for over 30 years.

Max's dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable farming practices led him to become a consultant for the Indian Lake Watershed Project in Logan County, Ohio. He also shared his expertise as a consultant and teacher at The Regenerative Agricultural Farm at The Ohio State University in Lima, Ohio, until his retirement. Max's faith was an important part of his life, and he was an active member of the Cornerstone Global Methodist Church in Marysville, Ohio.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Max found solace and joy in nature. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and camper, often sharing these passions with his family and friends. Max was also deeply involved in various organizations, including the Kiwanis Club and the Freemasons, where he proudly served as a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason for over 40 years.

Throughout his life, Max's contributions were recognized with numerous awards and honors, including accolades in agronomy and a Grand Champion Steer title at the Ohio State Fair during his high school years, which helped fund his college education.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The James Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. To honor Max's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.

Max Lynn Mohler will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family, community, and the land he loved will continue to inspire and uplift us all.

I am a first cousin of Max's, my name is Sharon Kay Mutzner Crary. His mother Helen and my Mom, Mary Louise were sisters. Our families lived together for a short time when we were toddlers. Max and I decided to play barber and he gave me "bangs" and threw the cuttings behind the couch. Don't remember any repercussions . We didn't think anyone would notice. I spent many a week on summer vacations on their farm. I was told how fun it would be to walk through the chicken yard in my bare feet, that was probably after I'd run through the wheat stubble barefoot also. The last time we spoke was right after his surgery and he sounded so good. I will miss just knowing that he's not here anymore.

I am Sheldon Birkhold Max' first cousin. We enjoyed early lives together either on his parent's farm or my home in Conover, Ohio. One memory was we as 6 years old and thought it would be fun to chase squeeling piggys around in a pen on grandpa's farm. Little did we know how malodorest we became. It was a cold windows open drive back home.
