Maxine Delay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2008.
MAXINE WIMBISH DELAY went to be with The Lord on January 28, 2008. She was born in Long Beach, California on October 27, 1923 to Thomas and Margaret Wimbish. She was the baby of her family. As a young child, she began her sacrifice of moving with family in the oilfield when her father, who worked for Humble Oil, relocated to Corpus Christi, TX. After graduating from Corpus Christi High School in 1941, Maxine enrolled at Texas A&I in Kingsville, TX, where she fell in love with Charles Ray DeLay of Mirando City, TX. They married and after wartime, returned to Laredo, TX to start a family. After moves to West Virginia, Arkansas, and 3 different locations in Venezuela, she settled with her family in Corpus Christi and later in Houston. Maxine and Charlie were privileged to travel the world while building one of the largest offshore drilling companies in the world. While being a devoted and selfless wife and mother, she did it all, from den mother, Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school leader and carpooling, to state dinners in Israel and commissioning of offshore drillships. Her devotion and enduring love for her family and friends is how she glorified God. Proverbs 31:10-31 describes her life best. Her presence liberated others. She represented, in human form, the true love of Jesus Christ. Her channel of God's grace touched many lives. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Thomas Wimbish, sisters Nell Johnson, Tena Evans, and grandson Todd DeLay. She is survived by sons Charles Ray DeLay II, Thomas Dale DeLay and wife Christine Furrh DeLay, Randolph Lee DeLay and wife Drue Carter DeLay, daughter Tena Neislar and husband Greg Neislar, grandsons Charles Ray DeLay III, Brent Irwin DeLay, Tommy David DeLay, Randolph L. DeLay II, Charlie Neislar, granddaughters Danielle DeLay-Ferro, Nicole DeLay Rogers, Katy Neislar, Shelby Neislar, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. A celebration of Maxine, Mom, Granny, Mamo's life will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008, in the Chapel at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, TX at 2:00 PM, with interment immediately following. Pallbearers will be Trey DeLay, Brent DeLay, Tommy David DeLay, Randy DeLay II, Charlie Neislar, and Wayne Rogers. Arrangements are entrusted to Seaside Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, TX 78412, (361) 992-9411.

I thought that Mrs. DeLay was best described by, "Her devotion and enduring love for her family and friends is how she glorified God." She was a very special Lady. To the DeLay family I say, May you feel God's presence as He carries you through this difficult time. With Sympathy, Susan Wagner

One of things I love most about my husband Randy is his ability to never hold a grudge and forgive keeping no record of wrongs. It was hard for me to understand because I have never been that way. After getting to know Mamo I knew exactly who Randy had gotten these wonderful gifts from.
Mamo was a wonderful and amazing woman who instantly welcomed me into her family. She was kind, caring, and generous. She is an example to all.
She will be missed by all.

The obituary descibes Maxine so very well. She was always so warm, friendly and kind. I know she is safe in the arms of Jesus.

To the DeLay family, we send our condolences, especially to Randy and Drue and Randy II. Maxine was so kind and loving to Ashley, and such a great lady. She will be missed.

I remember Mrs. DeLay very fondly. My mother worked for Storm with Mr. DeLay. We would go over to visit them at their house- my brother Damon and I would ride the little train in the backyard, and Mrs. DeLay would give us these little red tart candies. She was a great lady and will be missed. My mother is Nancy Gerhardt, and she too is very saddened about the loss of such a great woman. The family is in our thoughts and prayers.
