Caldwell - Maxine Heniger Houston passed away peacefully on February 8, 2023. She was born in Taylor County, near Gravity, Iowa, at the family home June 26, 1918, joining a brother, Claude and a sister, Lucille. The early years of her life were spent in Iowa and Missouri, moving to York, Nebraska at the age of 7. She attended grade school and high school in York, and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

She married her high school sweetheart, Milton Houston, September 1, 1940. To this union were born 3 sons and 1 daughter. They made their home on the family farm north of York for 6 years. In 1946 they moved by emigrant train to their present home near Caldwell, Idaho, where they farmed, ranched, and raised their family for 77 years. She was active in Centerpoint Community Club, PTA, United Methodist Church Sunday School and youth groups, Eastern Star, and PEO. After her children were grown, she worked as a legal secretary in Caldwell and as City Clerk for the City of Notus.

Upon retirement in 1981 she and her husband Milt traveled extensively to Alaska, Europe, Australia, Hawaii, and toured the United States. They were members of Good Sam RV Club and enjoyed many trips in Idaho. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, reading, photography, gardening and canning, playing bridge and in later years, ballroom dancing and organ lessons.

She is survived by her four children and spouses, sons James Houston (Marcia), Douglas Houston (Nancy Taylor), and Michael Houston (Lorrie); Daughter, Sharon McIntosh (Lenny Charnoff); 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Milton, her brother, Claude Heniger and sister, Lucille Porter, and parents Eva Morgan Heniger and Joseph O. Heniger.

Services will be held at Dakan Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 27th, at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial at Canyon Hill Cemetery. The family would like to thank Gayle Christensen for her years of kind and loving care of our wonderful Maxine, and the excellent staff at Meadow View Nursing and Rehabilitation. Memorials may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.

Maxine Heniger Houston was truly a Legend. Not only did she live 104 1/2 years, she lived those years making the most she could of each and every day. She will be remembered for so many things, including her positive outlook ALWAYS, her angel food cakes, pies, rolls, and bread, her ability to gracefully host large dinner parties, her love of family, and so much more. We will greatly miss her.
