Medrith Shively Gatewood Peacock, known to most as Medie, and affectionately to her grandchildren as Mimi, was born on the 10th of August 1924, and passed away on the 31st of May 2011. She was born in Beaumont, Texas and at the age of 12, she moved to Houston, Texas.
Medrith attended Sidney Lanier Junior High School, Lamar High School and Baylor University. While attending Lamar High School, she received the honor of "May Queen". While attending Baylor University, she received the honor of "Baylor Beauty" two years in a row and met husband Lester Boyd "Buddy" Gatewood. She and Buddy married March 1944 at South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Several years of marriage and three children later, she moved and lived in Oklahoma City, OK until the time of Buddy's death in 1965. She then moved back to Houston to be with her family and eight years later was blessed to meet Tom Peacock, Jr. She and Tom were married in 1973 and until his death in 2009.
Medrith lived a full, wonderful and blessed life as a wife and mother. She served and loved her Lord faithfully and attended numerous Bible studies over the years. She attended Second Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday school and worked weekdays in the media room and prayer room. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren - she loved being with them. She will be greatly missed and has left an indelible mark in the lives of all who loved and knew her. Her spirit will live in our hearts forever.
Medrith is preceded in death by her parents, George Winston and Hattie Sue Shively; her sister, Vonda Sue Reid; and her husbands, Buddy Gatewood and Tom Peacock.
Medrith is survived by her children; her son, son Larry Gatewood and daughter-in-law, Denna Gatewood of Houston, Texas; her son Craig Gatewood of Austin, Texas; and her daughter, Dayna Sutton and son-in-law, Mark Sutton of Austin, Texas.
