Melinda Owen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 16, 2018.
Melinda Leigh Owen, 53, lost her four-year battle with cancer on Monday, April 16, 2018 in Dallas, TX. She valiantly fought the cancer induced pain and illness and was an incorrigible optimist in the face of poor odds the entire time. Her passing was a peaceful and a welcome release from the pain that she had grown accustomed to hiding from others. She told the family a few weeks before her death that she saw both her guardian angel and Jesus. The guardian angel assured her that her husband and boys would be fine. She said Jesus allowed her to live a few more weeks because her work was not quite done. That work may have been to set an example for others about preparing for eternal life.

Melinda was a nurse by training and worked in hospitals early in her career. The only thing she loved more than being a nurse was being a wife and mother. The fact that her work took her away from the children pained her greatly, so she was always looking for alternatives. In 1995, she started a work-at-home transcription company, Notes N Quotes, Inc., that allowed her to work at home. This grew into a business utilizing additional employees that could also work from their home, an aspect which Melinda truly loved. Melinda also had the privilege of being elected and serving a term as President of MTIA, one of the national transcription associations. When Melinda wasn't working, she loved cooking, sunning by the pool, hanging with friends regardless of venue, and especially loved traveling to Europe.

Melinda is remembered as a loving wife of 31 years and adoring mother of three sweet and handsome boys. She was also a beloved daughter and sister in a tight knit family. Most importantly, she was a great friend to all. Everyone will remember her fun-loving personality--always laughing and entertaining. Wonderful remembrances of Melinda and her legacy live on through all who had the honor to share this slice of time.
