Melvin Sandberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2007.
Melvin Sandberg, 81, of Port Monmouth, N.J., previously of Davenport, Iowa, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 15, 2007. An inventory supply manager specializing in optical devices, he worked for the United States Army at Ft. Monmouth as a Civil Service employee, retiring after 34 years.
He loved walking on the beach, collecting seashells with his beloved wife, Ann. Following her death, he turned to his earlier passion of writing poetry, and he was successful at having some of the original poems he had written throughout his life published. It was clear to anyone who heard his wonderful tenor voice that he truly loved music.
He was predeceased by his parents, Herman Albert and Sarah Rose Brill Sandberg, his brother, Dr. Herschel Sandberg, and by his wife, Ann Sandberg, in 1994. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Samuel and Susan Sandberg, of Maquoketa, Iowa; his sister, Rae Sandberg, of Philadelpha, Pa.; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Sandberg; his nephew, Henry Sandberg; his niece, Julie Sandberg Rush; his granddaughters, Sarah and Sheri; and his grandnephews, David and Jesse Rush.
Services, entrusted to the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701, were held in New Jersey. Donations in Mr. Sandberg's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, One Union Street, Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691-4183. Letters of condolence may be sent to the funeral home's website, www.sidun.com.
