Meredith Hight Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 12, 2017.
Meredith Emily Lane was born, Tuesday, December 12, 1989, in Chamblee Georgia, to Gene Lane and Debra Dunham Lane and quickly became their pride and joy. She was a happy, precious child who started speaking at the early age of six months. She rarely cried and brought joy to all who met her.
Meredith grew up in Snellville and Flowery Branch Georgia. Her mother affectionately referred to Meredith as, "Honey-Bunny," and her father lovingly referred to her as, "Munchkin." In high school many of her friends referred to her as, "Mel," or "Mer." Work peers often referred to her as "Fireball," for the spark and fire she had for life that showed when she made her presence in a room.

Meredith spent her early years "just being a kid." She loved playing in the woods, being with her dog Abby and inventing board games that filled the driveway. She began ballet at age three and continued ballet and jazz dance for ten years. She was a natural, "no fear" competitor, who won 1st place in Synchronized Swimming for the Southeastern US Region at age eight. She was also an equestrian and volleyball player.

Meredith was 2nd runner-up for Miss Teen of Georgia at age thirteen. At the age of fifteen, as high school sophomore, she was one of two students to represent the State of Georgia at the Presidential Classroom in Washington DC. Her most memorable meetings were with current Georgia Governor, Nathan Deal, and the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. She graduated West Hall High School, Oakwood, Georgia, which was a proud moment for her parents. Her last two years of high school she was part of Georgia Academy of Math Engineering and Science (GAMES), where she attended Georgia Middle College on a dual enrollment program receiving high school and college credit. She graduated University of Texas, Dallas with a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics.

Meredith's career path started as a teenager with the joy of riding horses. During college she worked in the food service industry. Upon graduation from University of Texas, Dallas, Meredith went to work for the Coca-Cola Company in various customer facing positions with her last position as Merchandising Supervisor.

Meredith parents would want their precious daughter to be remembered as loving, sincere, forever willing to help others, patriotic, and stubborn. She had the ability to make you feel at ease and want to talk with her. She made you feel that what you had to say was important to her. She loved being around people and they loved to be around her.

Meredith had a passion for attending Renaissance Festivals in full costume. She also frequently attended concerts, where she danced and danced. She was known as the "Dance Queen," on 311 cruises, as she would dance around the entire deck during the band's performances.

Meredith had a life motto: Love Your Life and Give Love to Everyone on Your Journey.

Meredith was preceded in death by her Granddaddy, L. Vann Dunham.

Meredith is survived by her loving parents: Gene and Debra Lane, grandmother: Betty Dunham, Uncle: David Dunham, Aunt: Sabra Dunham, Cousin: Alexa Dunham, dogs: Lulu and Chaucer, and a plethora of friends and co-workers.

In lieu of flowers Meredith's parents are requesting donations, in honor of their daughter, be made to Hope's Door New Beginning Center

My wife and I worked with Meredith at Raising Canes in DFW. When we heard this story, it was absolutely devastating. I know people always say things like this, but in this case it's totally accurate. Meredith was the most fabulous person we've ever met. She always had a smile on her face, she was quite literally a ray of sunshine whenever she was around. We are praying for her family during this most difficult time. Just know that people are thinking of you and that your daughter truly touched the lives of anyone lucky enough to have met her.

Meredith was one of my favorite people in high school. She was so kind and smart. I looked to her as someone who would change the world. Although we did not stay in touch, I would check in via social media on her a few times a year. I wanted to know if she was happy. I think she was.

Meredith was the first student to befriend my daughter when Michelle transferred to UT Dallas. My heart and prayers are with Meredith's parents as they move forward without their beautiful daughter. In 2nd Samuel: King David said these words after the death of his first born son, "He can not return to me, but I shall go to him."
