Michael C., Alessandra M., and Thomas M. Buarque de Macedo passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2016.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in the St. Vincent De Paul Chapel at The Catholic University of America. The interment service will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland. Immediately following the burial, all are invited to attend a reception at the Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center at The Catholic University of America.
The family requests no flowers, however, memorial contributions may be directed to The Catholic University of America, "Buarque de Macedo STEM Scholarship" c/o CUA Division of Advancement, 620 Michigan Ave NE, Aquinas Hall 106, Washington, DC 20064 (202-319-6910; [email protected]; giving.cuatoday.com).

I can't express the shock and sorrow I am feeling having just learned about your passing today. My heart aches just thinking about the 3 beautiful people tragically gone to soon. Mickey, you were my mentor and a true friend both you and Alessandra graciously allowed me to live in your home while I was going through a terrible time in my life. i will never forget you for that and it just goes to show the heart of the Buarque De Macedo family. Tommy I remember you when you were a small child and watched you grow into a you a smart young man. Very quiet, but so much passion for life and such a wonderful soul. I am truly saddened and would like to extend my condolences to the Buarque De Macedo family.

A tear falls as I remember every accounting joke, every kind gesture, every work day with Alessandra and Mickey. 2 more tears fall as I recall hearing the children coming into the house, after-school everyday. Countless tears fall as I remember the good-byes expressed between myself and Alessandra every Friday before I left the office. Macedo Family, please know that you are in every thought & prayer shared by family and close friends. Mickey, Alessandra, and Tommy were very much loved, always will be loved. In Alessandra, I gained a mentor, friend, and 2nd mom (as she referred to me as her "Step-daughter" and I referred to her as my "Step-Mom"). I was shocked and saddened to learn that my old friend Mickey passed without having had a chance to get back together with him. I was a classmate of Mickey's (Whitman 1981), and even after 35 years, I still have fond memories of him, one of the funniest and brightest kids in our class. I struggled a lot while trying to come up with something to tell you. It is hard to say goodbye, specially in such situation, but I realized that I don't need to write a beautiful message, a poem or a song that reminds me of you. Uncle Michael, I didn't spend a lot of time with you, but when I did, it was joyful. Thommy, my little big boy. I only knew Mickey for about two months, we worked together in Kansas City and for the same the contracting agency. Mickey was always kind and helpful. He was always in a good mood and quick to make a joke. I enjoyed our conversations about the Redskins and DC sports in general. It was a joy to work with Mickey and it was very sad to hear about this tragic accident. I will keep Helena and all relatives in my thoughts. Rest in peace Mickey, Alessandra, and Thomas.
