Michael Eckert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2016.
Michael "Mick" James Eckert was born to James and Barbara Eckert on August 5th, 1969. He and his younger sister Catherine grew up in Friendswood, TX just outside of Houston. Although his lived in Texas his whole life, Mick's favorite baseball team was the Yankees. He was even nicknamed "Mick" after Mickey Mantle.

Before graduating from Friendswood High School in 1987, Mick worked in his dad's Medical Supply Store. He went on to graduate from Blinn Junior College in 1990 with an AA degree and attended Sam Houston and University of North Texas. For most of his life, Mick worked in the computer industry. He was a manager/programmer at EDS until he was laid off and ran his own t-shirt business and shipping business in Celina for three years. For the past five years he worked for Bank of America in Internet Security. While still working there in 2015, he got his Real Estate license. Unfortunately, he got sick before he was able to really use his new license.

Mick enjoyed the outdoors especially fishing, hunting, and boating. He liked country dancing, spending time with friends and family, and playing dominoes "42". He only drank socially but when he did, it had to be imported beer or whiskey. He loved anything to do with Texas and was a member of the NRA. His favorite place to be was either on a lake or in his recliner watching sports or TV shows with his wife.

He absolutely loved being a dad; he did everything he could with his kids. He was the announcer for his son's high school baseball team "The Frisco Lone Star Rangers" and coached his daughter's soccer team "The Defenders" and his son's baseball team. He enjoyed watching the Yankees play baseball, going to Dallas Cowboys games with his father, and watching F1 races with friends. He liked to listen to classic country and Red Dirt Country music.

Mick married Sharon Sue Hattermann on May 23, 1992. They met at Blinn College in 1989 and they were married for 24 years. They had two children, Jordan Elizabeth Eckert and Jared Michael Eckert. Jordan married Cody Higgins on April 2, 2016 which brought his son, Lawson Higgins (4 years old) into the family and made Mick an instant grandfather. Jordan is due to have her first daughter, Riley, in December.

He's is preceded in death by his grandparents, Patti & Winston Jones and Clarence & Novella Eckert.

He is survived by his parents, James and Barbara Eckert; sister, Catherine Woodbury (Dave Woodbury); wife, Sharon Hattermann Eckert; children, Jordan Elizabeth Eckert Higgins (Cody Higgins) and Jared Michael Eckert; 7 nieces and nephews; and grandchildren Lawson (aged 4) and Riley (due in December 2016).

To the Eckert Family, your husband, father and our friend will be missed. He was someone who always had a smile, a gentle way about him. I felt I could always ask him anything and he was always willing to help and give me guidance when it came to LSHS Baseball Boosters. He put his heart into everything he did, he loved being up in that booth announcing those games. I am thankful for your friendship and thankful my son Jacob and the boys all had as much time with you as they did. You are a special man and you will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to your family.
