Michael Heykoop Obituary

Published by The Province on Aug. 10, 2006.

HEYKOOP _ Michael William (TAZ) March 20, 1964 - August 3, 2006 It is with sadness and sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Mike on August 3, 2006 in Port McNeill, B.C. He was predeceased by his big sis, Kathleen Potts. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Shirley, his step-children Shane (Jodi), Krista "TA-TA" (Rob), Clint (Kim), sisters Melissa (Bob/Tom), Shannon (John), Alana, Shannon, Robin, brother-in-law Dave and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandchildren. He is also survived by his father, Ernie, mother, Sharlene and grandmother June. Mike was a man who made many friends where ever he went and he deeply touched the lives of them all. He was especially close to his dad, Ernie, his granddaughter Kylie Dawn and his "special" cat Herman. There was never a dull moment with Mike, you never quite knew what he was up to next. He had a way of lighting up a room whenever he walked in. Mike's happiest times were when he was one ocean and he took every chance he could to go fishing. The family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Clem (brother from another mother), Amy, Ashley (Smash), Crystal, Kris, Trina, Mike's work crew, Bob, Cindy, Yvonne and all of Port McNeill for all of your hospitality and comfort to us during this difficult time. We would also like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, police and firemen who tried to rescue him. Your at peace now, Pa-Pa. A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at Sands Funeral Home, 1 Newcastle Ave, Nanaimo, B.C. Viewing will be held at 11:30 - 12:30 pm, reception will follow at 1:00 pm. Please bring your funny stories to share. SANDS _ NANAIMO250-753-2032

Pa, I still can't believe your gone, seems so surreal. I'll never forget the times we had, fishing in the snow, laid up together after our car accident, crabbing off your boat, 4 x 4'ing over curbs and you teasing me about my cooking. Thank you for loving me and thank you for loving my mom the way you did, I'll be sure to take care of her for you! love ya pa-pa! rest in peace!

The memories of Mike will not be forgotten. Mike left something behind with all of us who knew him, by labeling all his friends and family with nick names. I will always be known as Cindy-Lou who. To Shirley, I hope for the best, and I will always be your Cindy-Lou who.

You are in my thoughts. For as long as you keep him in your mind and heart and search him out in places, things and friendly faces, just look for him for he will always be.

pa-pa, i'm gonna miss you so much...a piece of my heart has died with you. i'm thankful for all the fun times we had, and we all know there were many of them. i don't know how i'm gonna cope without getting your silly phone calls, just to say "hello, ta-ta!".

thanks for being the best step-dad and thanks for being my friend. you were also the best "grandpappy" ever to Kylie Dawn, you were the world to her.

Rest in peace pa-pa,
