May 2018 - A year has passed since you left us . You were my husbands and my doctor . A large plaque with your photo and infectious smile hangs in the foyer at the long term care residence Prescott Russell where my husband is and where you worked , so I see you everyday. At first it was tearful to see you there then with time that generous smile offered encouragement and a nudge to stay positive while going through this adversity . I am grateful for the words you offered when things seemed so hard , because when I pass each day and see your face I hear them again and it helps .
I hope it is peaceful where you are and you are surrounded by love . Kathy and Marc thank you Dr Mike

To Mike's family and friends: I met Mike years ago when we both were councillors at SUNIA. He was one or two years ahead of me, and acted as a mentor to me and the other junior SUNIA staff. He was intelligent, passionate, committed, and loved to laugh. He embraced life with an open heart and an open mind. I recall that he loved the weekly campfires and sing-a-longs at the SUNIA camp, and can still hear his enthusiastic baritone in the back of my mind. Clearly, Mike has had an immense impact on more people that can be counted. I will miss him. My sympathies.

We were so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. We met Mike when he moved up to Iroquois Falls, Ontario to work at Anson General Hospital in the early 90's. After he moved to Hudson, it was always a pleasure to catch up with Mike--and watch the family grow--when he would come up north to do locums from time to time at the area hospitals. He was a kind and generous person and a caring physician. Our condolences to his family.

I cannot believe this news. Dr. Markowski has been my physician since the passing of Dr. Lowe. A wonderful man and doctor. I join with great sadness and heartache all those who knew and loved this kind and gentle man. My deepest sympathies to his loved ones.

My thoughts are with family and friends. I too was a classmate of Mikes from Queens Med 90. We seemed to attend many of the same conferences over the years. Mike was always cheerful and it was delightful to chat and catch up periodically. Very sad to loose him so young.

Dear sweet Mike,
I know that your family and friends will remember you as I do... A person who made all difficult situations bearable, a person who you always wanted to be around because he loved life so much. He was my best friend from the time I was 5, all throughout our formative years, and he made me a much better person than I would have been without him. He was my brother... More than a brother. Life takes hold and we go on our own paths. We had not seen each other in many years but in the last few days before... and after... I know that we were thinking of one another... and I know that we always will. He loved his family so deeply and he will always be that tattoo on your heart, always, for all of you. I will always love you, Mike, and you will never be far. Deepest condolences to your beautiful family who I just caught a glimpse of yesterday, but who are all people that you should be immensely proud of; to wonderful Rob and family, such strength and humour as you have always displayed; to Marianne and family, keeping all together and reaching out to those who loved you; and finally to Joan and Peter... Mrs. Markowski was my second mom who introduced me to Ukrainian food and always made me welcome, and Mr. Markowski, who, when he heard I was in Edmonton last year, asked me, 'why didn't you drop in and say hello?'... he still wants family and friends around to this day. You are all part of who Michael became, and he was an amazing person. So sorry for your loss.

Mike and I were classmates at Queen's. We had not seen each other in years. I notice that his hair changed..a bit... but not that big smile. He was a sweet kind man and a great colleague. Things got pretty desperate at times in Med School and Mike was always ready with an encouraging word and the big smile. I am very sorry for your loss.

Dear Family, we are so very sorry for your loss.
Dr Markowski was a wonderful person with a smile that made those around him feel calm and positive. We interacted on a professional basis as Dr and patient, lawyer and client . We were mentors to each other as cancer survivors and most of all I referred to Michael as my friend.
I was with Michael only two days before his passing and we laughed about many things . Please remember that as you grieve there are so many grieving with you. Take comfort in knowing that Michael made a tremendous difference to the lives of those who knew him and an immense contribution to the community . He was an absolute credit to his profession and each of you as members of his family will hopefully take some comfort in knowing he was admired and loved by so many. My wife jackie and I and our three children who always referred to Mike as our doctor send our sincere condolences for your loss. Dave shelly

We were so very shocked and saddened to hear of Mike's passing. He was a very kind soul; there for our family on countless occasions when we needed medical advice and guidance. There was a time when one of our children was in crisis and he not only helped her in his capacity as a Doctor but also as a friend, giving her advice that helped her through the most difficult time in her life. We also knew him as a father, being our two children's friends' Dad. He was such a patient and loving Dad; would do anything for his kids and I hope they know that we are here for them if they need anything, even just a place to hang out :) Thinking of you all,
Love from The Girvans

Mr. and Mrs. M, Mariane and Rob, I can't express enough my sadness for your loss and all of us that grew up with Mike's friendship. He was a "big brother" to me in many ways during my formative years in high school and med school, and I can only remember him by his smile and way he would always tell me "it'll be OK". He'll always be in my heart. With my love and thoughts...Natalie

To the extended family, we send our sincere prayers for your comfort and support needed, at this time in your lives.
Dr.Markowski was not only our guide and health consul during the past numerous years, he was also respected and appreciated as a good kind human being.
He gave us not only a medical map to follow, but always reminded us, in is way, that life is but " one day at a time ".
