Michael Anton Marxer, 83, of
Livonia, MI, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 23, 2023. He was born on June 4, 1940, in
Detroit, MI to parents Otto and Laura Marxer. Mike graduated from Edsel Ford High School in 1958. He then served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962. After his military service, he attended the University of Michigan Dearborn, where he studied business from 1964 to 1967.
Mike was happily married to Sandra Lee Marxer for 62 years. They celebrated their most recent anniversary on October 14th. Mike and Sandy met and married at a young age and enjoyed a beautiful life together. They entered hospice care together and Sandy passed away exactly one week after Mike on October 30th, 2023. In life and in death they were truly inseparable - an incredible love story. Mike is survived by his loving daughter Michele (Richard) Witter and granddaughter Lauren; his son Damon (Colleen) Marxer and grandsons Benny and Jackson; his brother John (Debra) Marxer and many cherished friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mike had a successful career in the financial services industry. He worked as a stock broker for Fahnestock & Company from 1968 to 1978. In 1978, he joined the opening of the Merrill Lynch office in Dearborn, MI where he provided decades of trusted service to his clients. He was a leader in his long term planning based approach to investments. Mike was dedicated to ongoing professional development and honed his expertise in investment management at Wharton School in 1999. His son, Damon, joined him in 2002 and has since grown their business thereby fulfilling Mike's lifelong dream. Among many high acheivements, he was a First Vice President - Wealth Management Advisor and earned recognition in the Merrill Lynch Circle of Excellence before he retired in 2010.
In his personal life, Mike loved to spend time with his family. He maintained a connection with his relatives in Liechtenstein from where his father, Otto Marxer, immigrated to America. Mike spent much of his time outdoors enjoying upland bird hunting, training his German Shorthair Pointers, skiing, as well as bass and fly fishing with close friends and family. Mike and Sandy built a beautiful log cabin home on the Sturgeon River in Northern Michigan which they lovingly named River Run. They enjoyed many years of gatherings and memory making with their kids, grandkids, friends and entire family at the cabin. Mike had a kind soul and was always willing to provide a helping hand to those in need. He was a member of Dearborn Kiwanis for nearly 46 years, and served as president of the club in 2015. Mike was always ready to volunteer for service projects, fundraising in the annual peanut sale for the Kiwanis mission to help children, and sponsoring "Little League" for his fellow members. In his most recent years, Mike took up the hobby of painting with a Parkinson's group and created many beautiful works of art.
There will be a Celebration of Life in the springtime for both Mike and Sandy. The family will provide details to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Kiwanis Foundation of Dearborn or Parkinson Foundation in memory of Michael Marxer.
