Michael McGimpsey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2023.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) McGimpsey, 70 years old, who left this world on October 27, 2023, surrounded by his family. Mike was the cherished husband of Michelle McGimpsey for 45 years, a loving father to Kelly Azzarelli (spouse B.J. Azzarelli) and Erin Duvall (spouse Shaw Duvall), and a devoted grandfather to Aidan Azzarelli, Dylan Cheeley, Doug Duvall, Jenevieve Cheeley, Megan Azzarelli, Michael Duvall, Audrey Duvall, and Benjamin Duvall. He was also a beloved brother to Rebecca Webster and Nancy Lewis and had several nieces and nephews as well. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Nancy McGimpsey and his mother-in-law, Carol Vinum.

Mike was a source of faith, hope, and love within his family and community. His 45-year marriage to Michelle was a testament to their enduring love and commitment, built on the foundation of their shared faith. He had a passion for sharing his faith and spirituality, touching the hearts of many he knew with his kindness, compassion, and fun spirit. Even though he suffered over the last 10 months, Mike's faith did not waiver and he would share his faith with anyone who would listen to him. His family even had one doctor tell them that Mike was always talking about God to him! This was a true testament of Mike's unwillingness to let those who crossed his paths not know that he loved Jesus and they should too.

Mike was a dedicated and compassionate businessman who placed a strong emphasis on serving others throughout his career. His commitment to integrity, passion, and making a difference left a lasting impact on his colleagues, community, and the lives of those he interacted with.

Mike's early years were marked by his dedication to the principles of scouting, and he worked diligently to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout during his high school years. His commitment, leadership, and passion for service inspired those around him and made a huge impact on his life. Mike pursued higher education at UC Berkley and after completing his studies, Mike embarked to a path toward self-employment. He approached his endeavors with creativity, dedication and a strong work ethic, leaving a mark on the business world and inspiring others to pursue their passions.

During the initial phase of his professional journey, Mike spent 25 years running successful pizza restaurants in California and Washington State. He was often known as "The Pizza Guy" and his approach to business was marked by a genuine desire to prioritize service to others. Whether it was his employees, community members, or customers, he made it a point to ensure that his businesses were centered around serving their needs and having fun. This dedication not only contributed to his success but also fostered a positive and thriving environment within his establishments.

Later in life, when his daughters moved to Florida, Mike and his wife Michelle decided to follow them to Florida and shift focus to their family. Mike continued to channel his passion for service and leadership in his ventures in Florida. He took on the role of a supervisor at a local business, where he continued to make a positive impact through his dedication, work ethic, and fun people-oriented approach. Up until the pandemic, Mike was also involved with teaching Elementary Sunday school classes at Bay Life church and left a lasting impact on several students including his own grandchildren and their friends.

Throughout his life journey, Mike's legacy was defined by his unwavering commitment to service, integrity, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

In addition to his family, Mike was well known to all those he encountered. Many were touched by his generosity, warmth, and sense of humor. He had a knack for making everyone feel valued and loved, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 1 at Bay Life Church, 1017 Kingsway Rd. Brandon, FL at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Bay Life Church Missions in memory of Mike McGimpsey.

Condolences and fond memories can be shared with the family at [email protected].

Mike's legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew him. May he rest in peace, reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.

Sorry this is so late but I just found out about it today ! I used to work with Mike, we sat next to each other and shared many things over the years . He loved his wife and grandkids! I remember when he was in the hospital and he showed me a picture of all his grandkids around the hospital bed and he is laying there with the biggest smile! I ended up getting a canvas printed so he could hang it on the wall. He was so proud ! He was a hard worker , made lots of jokes and loved the Lord! He will be missed by me and the other co workers at TZ Insurance! Rest peacefully Mike!

I'll always remember Mike walking the cubicles pre-COVID, pounding on my desk. Was terrified of him at first, then realized he had a heart of gold and just wanted his team to improve. He made a huge impact on my career and I will always be grateful for all his insight and wisdom. Always enjoyed his pizza days stories and sharing videos of his grandson in baseball and dance. Rest in power, Mike!

A good friend can never truley be lost. Their energy lives in the hearts and minds of those who loved them. Love to me is Letting Others Voluntarily Evolve and Mike had a knack for helping people by allowing them and excepting them for themselves. Thank you Mike for being a good friend and a wonnderful boss.

When I started at HPONE as an agent Mike would always walk by my desk and I would say Hi Mr. Mike and he would grump at me as he walked past, I always thought he didn't like me, Fast forward a few years later when I became a supervisor he would reach out and make sure I was good and lended a hand in anything I would need to learn or anything I would need to know, Not only did I learn things from Mike on how to coach my agents on the Make a Friend but also I taught Mike some things on our systems. Definitely going to miss our conversations on his time in California and his adventures definitely going to miss hearing about his grandson the "Dancer" and getting the links to watch his competitions that Mike was so proud to share. Mike is going to be missed by myself as well as my family as he would always ask about my husband and how he was doing with his medical condition, mike even made it a point in our last busy season to make sure I had enough points to get my husband's recliner. Rest easy my friend as I know the last 10 months for you were a bear, glad you are finally up there with your maker and I'm sure rejoicing and giving him heck like you gave us down here. It's not goodbye it's until we meet again.
