Michael (Mick) Myers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2024.
With heavy hearts we regrettably share that Michael Barney Myers, affectionately known as "Mick," passed away on May 8, 2024. Born on November 19,1974 to Jack and Debe Myers, in Gaithersburg, MD, Mick will be remembered for his infectious spirit, humor and generosity.

Mick's memory is kept alive by his loving wife, Megan, his cherished children, Mackenna (21,) Caroline (21,) and Morgan (6,) as well as his father Jack (Laura,) mother Debe (John,) sisters Casey, Colleen, Katie, and brother Matthew along with his extended family, and a host of cousins, friends, colleagues and teammates. The warmth, humor, love, and joy he brought to life will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will be a comfort to those who knew him.

As a teenager Mickey excelled in sports where he made lifelong friendships. He graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1993. While there, Mickey was the running back for the 1992 4A State Football Champions. Later that same year, he was the catcher on the 1993 State 4A Runner-Up Baseball Team. He was drafted out of high school by the Florida Marlins, but chose the collegiate route instead, attending DeSales University. He was the 1993 member of the prestigious Cape Cod League, Brewster Whitecaps.

At DeSales, Mickey was all conference on the 1996 and 1997 Baseball Team. He holds the highest lifetime batting average of .406 and 1996 season record of .429. He was among the top ten in all hitting categories after only two seasons at DeSales. In 1996, Mickey was drafted again by the New York Yankees. After the 1997 season, he signed with the Seattle Mariners of the Midwest High A League.

He graduated from DeSales University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Sports Management in 1998. After college, he excelled in medical sales and was a high performer within the medical device and diagnostic industry. He was a seven-time President's Club Winner and 3-time Rookie of the Year winner.

Mick was a dedicated leader, fiercely committed to the people he worked with. At the time of his passing he had reached the Vice President/ Director position.

Over the years, Mick enjoyed being a member of several wooden bat baseball organizations including the Orioles (22 years and up) and the Braves (35 years and up). In 2021, he was voted MVP in the Baseball Amateur World Series. In 2023 his 35 and up team won the national World series.

Mick was a fierce competitor and friend. He loved to make people laugh and smile with his colorful stories and great sense of humor. He cared deeply about the people he loved and had a very generous heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 7,2024 at 10:30 am at St Mary's Catholic Church located at 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, Md.

I met Mick in 1997 . He was a teammate in Everett WA for Seattle Mariners where he just signed as a minor league free agent . Although we lost touch over the years , we recently connected and he was so energetic like he was years ago . God Bless his family and children. Writing this with a sad heart

This one hit me hard! Before Megan introduced me to Mick (met randomly in the neighborhood) she warned me that Mick and I will have a bromance. Boy was she not lying! We instantly hit it off and actually talked for hours as if we were 2 old friends catching up. Even made plans to have a drink together and go to a few Commanders and Nats games. Mick I still owe you that drink and we will have it opening day as you will never be forgotten. Cheers and until we meet again my friend

In the few short years I got to know Mick, he demonstrated his character, positive attitude, love for life, and love for his family. He will be greatly missed at Sunrise. May God's comfort carry his family in this time of great sorrow.

We are so deeply saddened by Mick's passing. As long time neighbors and friends of Jack and Laura, we heard many stories about Mick as a child. When meeting him, it didn't take long to see his great sense of humor, his love of life, and his love for his family. He will be missed by all. May his memory be a blessing. May his family be comforted in this time of sorrow.

Sorry to his family for your loss. Mick Dawg was a great teammate at DSU. In FL on our spring trips, he always made us laugh. We always went during biker week. One year a biker was making a lot of noise early in the morning. Mick took it upon himself to "handle" the situation. I think about that day a lot as I go back in time. He was a good dude. God Bless. Rest in peace brother, someday we will play baseball again together.

So very sorry to hear of this news. Mickey was an integral part of our first NCAA tournament appearances in 1997 and 1998 and a deserved future DeSales Hall of Famer. Beyond that, and most importantly, Mickey was a great teammate with a terrific personality that always put a smile on everyone's face. And...Mickey became a great husband and father.

All of our baseball family will have Mickey and the entire family in our prayers. May the Good Lord bless him and provide peace and comfort.

I am really going to miss Mick´s sense of humor. There were so many times he and Megan would verbalize things in a way that just made me laugh. I remember a time with friends where we were celebrating a birthday and Mick regaled our group with a baseball analogy pertaining to a risqué topic.

I was so impressed how he used baseball humor to make everyone feel comfortable. I am actually laughing as I write this because it was so funny.

He was an honest, talented, hardworking man who I will miss very much.

My heart bleeds for Megan, Morgan, MacKenna, Caroline, his parents and family.

Peace be with you all.

Mick, was a perfect son in law and a super father and husband. His positive team attitude was instilled by his father and refined over his professional baseball career and business career. He was a loving father.
His early passing leaves a gigantic hole in the hearts of all his family and friends.
