Michael Alan "Mike" Moffitt

May 26, 1966 - July 18, 2025

Mike - to everyone who knew him - passed away on July 18, 2025, at the age of 59. Born in Wichita, Kansas, on May 26, 1966, he grew up in Littleton, Colorado, where his lifelong love for the outdoors, adventure, and figuring things out really took root.

From the time he was a kid, Mike had a curious mind and a knack for taking things apart - toasters, toys, anything he could get his hands on - just to see how they worked. He always managed to put them back together, often better than before. That same curiosity and drive to understand the world stayed with him throughout his life.

At an early age, he found his love for fishing, hiking, and the great outdoors - often leaving the fish he caught in his sister's bathtub on the occasional overnight before releasing them back into the wild.

Mike was a Cub Scout, then a Boy Scout, and eventually joined the Arapahoe Rescue Patrol in high school, helping with mountain search and rescue missions. After high school, he attended Western State University and spent time working ski patrol at resorts across the Rockies - a perfect match for someone who was, at heart, a true mountain man.

After college, Mike found his calling in construction. He could build absolutely anything. His love for woodworking and crafting homes was more than a job - it was something that came from deep within. Everything he built was done with care, creativity, and precision. His craftsmanship was also a quiet way of showing love. Family and friends were often surprised with gifts made by hand - a wooden box engraved with a name, something just for Brittney, or a beautifully carved flower vase.

Mike had a deep love of nature - hiking, fishing, breathing in fresh mountain air. He once hiked the Appalachian Trail, and if the river was running, you could count on him to say, "I'm going to see if I can catch a mermaid." That was Mike - a dreamer with boots on the ground.

He was also a fantastic cook, always feeding the people he cared about with both heart and skill. And no matter what else was on the menu, a Milky Way and a Coca-Cola were always close by - his go-to combo. Mike had a deep love of books and was always eager to share a great read or a new idea.

He especially loved sharing his passion for classic rock with his brother-in-law, Scott Strebe - often swapping favorite albums, songs, and memories. Music was one more way Mike connected with those he loved.

One freezing Colorado winter, Mike, his sister Kay, and two childhood friends earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for building the longest card house - right in the basement of their home. That kind of sums him up - creative, patient, a little bit stubborn, and always up for a good challenge.

Mike loved animals, especially dogs. There was never a time in his life when he didn't have a loyal pup by his side, and he had a special way with animals - they simply trusted him.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Michael "Mike" Moffitt, and his mother, Annette E. Moffitt. He is survived by his sister, Kay Strebe, and her husband, Scott Strebe; and his beloved niece, Brittney Graf, and her husband, Tyler Graf.

Mike was deeply loved, and he'll be missed more than words could ever say.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life, his stories, and all the love he left behind.

Where do I begin as I have many great memories. The first time I met Mike was in Phoenix when he came down during the Christmas holiday season. He pulls up to our drive way in his truck playing I believe 93.5 FM classic rock. I knew right there we were going to buddies!!! Mike had an incredible gift of giving and was a master at fixing up things. He helped us during the holidays with things around the house. What I admired most was his laid back style and niceness toward others. Several months later Kay and I had a vacation in Colorado and spent time with Mike in his hometown. Incredible hikes, laughter soon followed. I admired his simplicity and being "his own person". A true mountain man!!! Now he is with our maker and surrounded by love, joy and peace. God bless you Mike you will be missed!!!

I´ll always remember you as a kid with your curly dark hair, busy sawing wood or putting something together that you´d taken apart. RIP Cousin Mikey
