Died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 8, 2012. He worked as a Human Resource Professional at Normandale Community College. Preceded in death by Mother, Geneva. Survived by Wife, Laura; Father, Retired Command Sergeant Major Marcellus, Jr. (Gloria Fletcher-Speight); Brother, Marcellus Anthony, III (Regina); Sisters, Brenda (Plez) Wooley & Marcellina; His Wife's Family, Many Nieces & Nephews. Service on Saturday, December 15 at 11 AM at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, 2195 Woodlane Drive in Woodbury, with visitation one hour prior.

To Laura, and the entire Speight family, words cannot express the way we felt when we got word about our dear brother Mike's passing. We are praying for the entire family!!! We pray the Creator's comfort during your time of bereavement, and is so grateful for ALL the memories you're shared. We now have another angel keeping watch over us. Dear Laura,
Our deepest sympathy's to you and your family. Although, we have never met you in person, we know that Mike loves you very much. God gave us a true sister and brother that will remain with us through the rest of our lives. As you grieve know that we are remembering you and honoring the memory of Mike. In the midst of your sadness you are held in the light of those who love you. This is life experience you can never get used to. Losing someone you love is the most excruciating pain we can go through. You walk through life with an open palm, helping those in need and offering your help where needed. Once again God saw the road was getting rough, and the road of life had become too hard to for CSM Marcellus Speight, USASMA Class 18 to travel and called him home. You remind us, Lord, through Solomon that to everything there is a season. We thank You for the earthly life You gave to this sergeant major and for the blessing during the sojourn here on the earth. We most especially thank You for the new life You granted this sergeant major in Jesus Christ. He broke the bonds of death by His resurrection. We rejoice at the hope of being reunited with him in the resurrection of all flesh. The NCO Corps thanks him for his selfless service act and his willingness to defend of America and all that we hold sacred. I believe for every fallen sergeant major like him there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift God has given the Corps.

Dear Laura. This is such a tragedy. I can't believe it. I can still see him on a roll, so proud of you, happy, joking and laughing when he took us all out for your surprise dinner for your Masters, and that's how I'll always think of him. I always laugh too when I think of him catching that huge bass at the cottage! He was so happy and it was so comical! Christmas was his favorite and he was always so generous with everything. We'll celebrate in honor of him this year! It's such a loss and I will miss him so much. I'm so sorry Laura that you have to go through this, but please know you are never alone.
