Michael Tully Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 24, 2024.
It is with extreme and profound sadness to announce the passing of Michael Jerome Tully (Tug) on November 28, 2023, at his residence in West Hollywood, California, after a brief heart-related illness. He was 67. Michael is survived by his son, Joseph C. (Coby) Tully, his grandchildren, Layla Tully and David Tully, his sisters Pamela Smith (Ron), and Elizabeth Wengerd (Jim), and brothers, James Tully (Elizabeth), Jay Patrick Tully (Becky), and Christopher Tully (Lori). His oldest son, Adam Michael Tully, predeceased him in March 2020. Michael will be missed by many cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends.

Michael was born on June 2, 1956, in Massillon, Ohio, to Jerome John and Beverly Joan Tully (nee McFee). He attended the University of Akron. His career in the music industry started as a Route Salesman for Variety Audio, then as a Sr. Buyer/Planner for Camelot Music, and as Sr. Product Manager/National Sales Representative for Musicrama/DMD. He moved to New York City in 1997 living in Queens.

He thrived working in the music industry and met many famous recording artists in his line of work, including Mariah Carey, Linda Ronstadt, Reba McEntire, Melissa Etheridge, and David Ferry to name a few,

In 2003, Michael was named Mr. Eagle NYC and represented the establishment at the International Mr. Leather competition held in Chicago in June 2003. He was proud of the charity work he organized during his tenure, but often remarked his greatest achievement in life was raising his two sons.

In 2004, he moved to Long Beach, California. The popularity of the Internet forced many brick-and-mortar stores to close their doors, along with his dream job. He transitioned into Security and worked at The Falcon and Ripples in Long Beach and Mickey's in West Hollywood. He also did a short stint as an Extra in films and voice-over work.

His interests included; music, camping, gardening, architecture, dog sitting, and flowers, with his favorites being Paper Whites and the Queen Elizabeth Rose. Neighbors and friends often saw him washing his favorite make of car, a Mercedes, or walking the neighbors' dogs, Mr. Jingles, Buttercup, Lexie, and most recently, Frankie. In July, he took a residence in Palm Springs, where he intended to make his home and live out retirement.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life was held on January 20, 2024, in Palm Springs, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to St. Jude's Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project, the Aids Health Foundation, or the Palm Springs Animal Shelter.

Tug, you're not forgotten. From the early days of you working security at the Broadway. Your kindness was evident, a result of bruised ego and heartbreak. You were intelligent and handsome. Flirty and a friend. May you rest in power and reunite with those who left before you.
