Michael Ward Obituary

Michael Shane Ward, originally from Fort, Yukon, passed away in early September in Phoenix, Arizona, after a lengthy illness. Mike had been living in Phoenix for the past seven years and prior to that had been living in Portland, Oregon.
Mike was born on April 10, 1974. His mother is Betty Itta, and his father is Clyde Mayo Sr. He is also survived by his beloved grandmother, Doris Ward, and his siblings, Craig Fleener, Cherie Lynn Erdmann, Charlie Mayo and Clyde Mayo Jr. He is also survived by numerous aunties including Phyllis Ward, Joyce Ward, Renee Ward and Peggy Wright. Uncles are Fred Mayo, Tommy Ward, Harold Ward and Jimmy Ward Jr. He leaves behind numerous cousins in Rampart, Fort Yukon, and Fairbanks and treasured friends from Fort Yukon including Melinda Peter, Kim Carlo, Tilly Cadzow and Diana Rae Skotstad.
Mike grew up racing dogs and was a champion in the Junior Dog Mushers. Mike was known for his quick wit, playful smirk and his love of George Jones. He graduated from Fort Yukon High School in 1991. He attended Illisagvik College in Barrow and earned a degree in waste water and water treatment.
Mike loved to reminisce and share his memories and stories of family, good meals, Christmas, and any story that recalled a good laugh or inside joke.
Mike's final resting place will be Birch Hill Cemetery beside his beloved Aunt Ruth, whom he loved so dearly. A graveside service will be held at 3?p.m. Oct. 7.
Mike will be missed. The family is thankful for his friends in Phoenix and especially Jason Ryan to took good care of him throughout his illness.
