Michelle Dickens-Weil Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 4, 2022.
Michelle Dickens Weil (October 4, 1965 – December 31, 2021), of Ashland, Massachusetts, died unexpectedly on New Year's Eve Day. Her family and friends know that she had a long-standing battle with multiple cancers and had recently been undergoing a stem cell transplant procedure. While initially successful, she recently suffered a setback and was undergoing treatment. Her fragile system developed a series of issues that she and her doctors were determined to fight. She was cheerful, cooperative and brave. As she succumbed to an unforeseen complication, she was surrounded by loved ones and listening to her beloved Barry Manilow.

She was the daughter of Samson Dickens and the late Linda Dickens. She leaves behind her husband Evan; her stepson Dane, his wife Sasha and their daughter Xenia; her siblings Beth, Matthew and his wife Patricia; her siblings-in-law Laurie Weil, and Melissa Mason, her husband James and their children Michelle and Ryan; her nephews/nieces Robert, his wife Brittany and their son Ronan, and Morgan and Ryan.

Michelle grew up in Southborough, and went to college at UMass Lowell, where she earned a Master of Education degree. After a few years of other various teaching positions, she settled in as a Special Education Teacher in the Attleboro Public School System. Before becoming ill, she had been very much looking forward to retirement!

One of her favorite pastimes was cooking, and she took enormous pleasure in feeding anyone who crossed her path. It was how she wooed Evan, and his fork has never left his hand. She was also a member of Cape Cod Synagogue, where she could usually be found running the show in the kitchen for many events there. Those were treasured times for her, as they were a bond she shared with her mother Linda.

Other interests included puzzles of many varieties including jigsaw, word and sudoku. She was also an avid Scrabble player who confounded her opponents by memorizing every two-letter word in the Scrabble dictionary! Michelle would also list reading as a hobby, but since her library consisted of only the trashiest romance novels, can we really consider that?

No tribute to Michelle could be complete without mention of her most cherished cat, Lylah. As pets always are, Lylah was the source of infinite pleasure and unconditional love. Being separated from her during the transplant process was the most difficult challenge for Michelle. Their reunion was sweet, if all too brief.

Perhaps there was something in the ether that day, as animal activist and actress Betty White was also taken from this Earth. If Michelle was a Golden Girl, she would be a Rose.

Services for Michelle will be held at Cape Cod Synagogue on Friday, January 7, 2022. Due to COVID restrictions, they will be private, but can be livestreamed via the synagogue's YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtz44Z2PflyjxQw10bVvYvQ or on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/CapeCodSynagogue/

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 8th, 5:00 – 8:00pm at the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter Street, Hyannis, Mass, 02601 (Masks required), and on Sunday, January 9th, 2:00 – 5:00pm at the family home at 42 Aspinet Road, South Yarmouth, Mass, 02664.

I will miss my friend Michelle. And I will always remember your gifts, your generosity, your compassion, understanding and empathy which you gave so freely to those you befriended and met. We had some great times, and we supported each other through some good and some challenging times. My heart goes out to her husband Evan and her family, knowing that you will miss her so very much. Michelle's spread her wisdom and love to so many, she valued others and always viewed the good in others. Her legacy will be always be felt. Rest peacefully my friend.

My heartfelt and sincere condolences to Michelle´s family and friends. She was an excellent teacher with the patience of a saint when it came to her students. I´ll never forget the stories she shared and her love for cooking, teaching, pets (walking her cat on a leash), religion etc. We laughed together about Disney"s "Feed the birds, tuppence a bag"...as I shared with her having sung it in elementary school. Michelle will not be forgotten.

May her family cherish the memories, and May she Rest In Peace.

I will never forget spending an evening in the ER with Michelle. She was a member of my volleyball team (I was a player/coach/manager) in the co-ed league from my job. She was eligible to join because she was married to my co-worker, Evan. Michelle suffered a devastating ankle sprain during a match while attempting to follow some advice (coaching) I gave her. With respect to Evan's dedication to his college education, logistics of the situation (the school gym was less than a mile from the hospital), and my sense of responsibility for the well-fare of my players, combined and coincided, strangely dictating that the best option was taking Michelle to the ER myself. At the same time that a blinding snowstorm arrived in the area.
We not only got through it, but took advantage the 4+ hours to bond over deeply meaningful and sometimes hilarious conversation. I'm grateful we got the chance to know each other. RIP Michelle.

Her Team

Having worked together as a team in the Attleboro School Department for many years, we found Michelle´s obituary to truly capture the "essence" of her. It made us laugh and cry. We will focus on the laughter, as she loved to make us laugh and we know that´s what she would want. Michelle was a selfless, beautiful soul and will be missed by anyone who had the pleasure of crossing her path. She shall live in our hearts for ever.
Our sincerest condolences,
Meg Goff, Dan Nolan, Gail Arrighi, Kathy Adams, Jen Holmes, Brian Stephenson and Brian Martin.

I am so sorry to hear of Michelle's passing. Though I know she had medical challenges, she never let them get her down she never complained about them, and frankly, she was of the nature to whip them all!
My thoughts are with her family. I know she would want everyone to remember the good and funny things about her, and to not dwell on her passing. I hope her family knows that she was a positive light in all those she met.

Evan, my heart goes out to you and your loved ones. Michelle was so full of life and was such a happy person. I hadn't seen her in a while and did not know she had been ill.
I remember how we used to chat at the after work outings she would join us at. She was definitely a Rose. You two were such an awesome couple and so lucky to have had one another in this life. The memories you have of her will always be with you and your families. May she rest in peace and live forever in your heart, and may that comfort you in the days to come.

Avoided Scrabble with Shelley. This past summer I shared with her a NYT Spelling Bee Hive to help me find the dratted PANGRAM. She immediately zoned into the challenge. Never mess with Shel. She was all in, no matter what. Love you, Cuz.
