Mike Postich Obituary

Published by News Sun from Oct. 14 to Oct. 20, 2014.
Postich, Mike Serb 72, fighting a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer, the Lord saw how tired Mike was. He looked around and found a beautiful place in his garden for Mike. Born into eternal life on October 7, 2014. Mike was born in North Chicago to Fred and Mildred Postich. He was the second oldest in a family of five. A graduate of NCCHS in 1960. Mike joined and proudly served in the U.S. Army 1961 to 1963. Upon his return home he met and married Barbara Pickett. From that union the light of his life was born, his daughter, Michele. Barbara passed away in 1979 and Mike's mom helped to raise Michele. Mike was a father to his daughter like no man has ever been. He was a room father in a time when there was no such thing. He was the Wolf Man Jack at Halloween school events. He was undoubtedly the first father to hold any such position at that time. He was as devoted to his daughter as she was to him. In 1992 he was blessed with his first grandson, Thomas. In 1996 he was blessed yet again with his second grandson, Myles. As a grandfather to Thomas and Myles he was the best. From the time they were toddlers the field trips began: the Waukegan Beach, and fishing along the pier; feeding the ducks, the Power House in Zion, countless trips to Little Caesars for crazy bread and Rocky Roccoco's; the annual excursion to the Wisconsin State Fair. Grandpa was able to take a trip to Winter Park, FL and proudly see Thomas graduate from college. The pride and glow on Grandpa's face will be etched in our memories forever. Myles will be entering college in the fall of 2015 and Grandpa will be beaming from above. His love of anything Kennedy, his strong voice and reticent nature. My father was such a genuine man. He was a man of substance. There was nothing pretentlous that existed within him. At this point in my life I know that very few possess this quality of character. I am so honored to have shared in life with my father. I will miss you forever and my life will never be the same but I thank you so much for the love, generosity, kindness and acceptance that you have bestowed upon me. Thomas and Myles will continue to carry on your legacy and will eternally make you proud. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mildred Postich; his sister, Mary Ann Cavener and his brother, Steve "Sia" Postich; he is survived by his daughter, Michele (Tom) Byrne; his two shining gems, his grandsons, Thomas and Myles Byrne; his sister, Judi Lampinen-Allen of Delavan, WI; his brother, Sam Postich of OK; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and 2 aunts. Visitation will be 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014, with a memorial service at 7:00p.m., at PETERSON & PATCH FUNERAL HOME, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan (847)623-0495.

Michelle and family. I just learned about your dad's passing when I tried to call yesterday and the phone was disconnected. I did call Sam and heard about your dad. I am so very sorry. I loved your dad...we always had such good laughs and when I was young and cute, he would tease me unmercifully. Please keep in touch with me...My email is [email protected]. God bless you all, love, Sherry Simmons

My Uncle Mike was like a father to me while I was growing up and I will always remember the fun times Michele and I shared whether it was at sleep overs, trying not to get caught getting in trouble, or going on the many adventures we took with her dad, you could never pull the wool over his eyes. He was always trying to scare us as kids and was successful most of the time. I have great memories of him and always looked forward to visiting with him on my trips home. I am sorry to loose such a great Uncle and am sorry I could not attend the services to visit one last time. My prayers are for you, Michele, and your family to get through this. Your dad will always be watching over you.

I've known some of the Postich family. Mary Ann was a year behind me at NCCHS.

I have never read such a beautiful tribute. Mike must have been so proud of you and your family.

May time help heal your pain and only happy memories remain.

Michele and Family, I am so saddened by the loss of your Dad, Father-in-Law, Grandfather and Brother. My thoughts and prayers go out too you all. He's not needing to suffer anymore, and just know that he'll be looking upon you all keeping you safe and watching his grandson's in sports, and growing up into fine young men. I won't be able to make it to the services Michele but, once things settle down us neighborhood girls should get together!!! Love and Hugs.

Michele, I felt every word. Your dad was clearly everything you said. I have ALWAYS respected him for the bond he had with you and for his kind genuine manner with everyone else. I'll let you in on a secret - I always wanted to be like Mike. :-) He was real snd I enjoyed chatting with him. I wish the world had more time with great guys like that. Thank you for sharing him with us. You truly were the light of his life and I know you and your sons will really miss him. I talked about him so much that my wife sought to console ME when I told her of his passing. He was what we call "good people". Love and prayers my friend. Hope to see you Thursday.

I was blessed to have visited my Uncle Mike in the weeks & days before his death. And make wonderful new memories that will stay with me forever. He struggled not to let anyone see his pain & fought a good fight. He was grateful for the daily visits & having Michele by his side to the end. I remember many fun times with Uncle Mike aka The Thumper aka Milan. We watched Son of Svengoolie with him, we rode the "gutcha whirl" at the Wisconsin State Fair with him, we inhaled the scent of his down 5 Points jacket infused with the smell of broasted chicken & English Leather (I still love that smell) We listed to Neil Diamond "Heart of Gold" with him. I heard that song the day after he passed away, the sun was shining & it brought a smile to my face. I will remember him as the fun uncle who wore offs & flannel shirts & liked to have fun with the kids, because he was a kid at heart. Goodbye Uncle Mike. I love you. Love, Red

A beautiful tribute to a life genuinely lived. You fought the battle valiantly...rest in peace now & watch over your beautiful daughter, Michele, & grandsons, Thomas & Myles. When that beam of light shines down on their faces (like it did when we took you out to the courtyard), they will know it is you watching over them as proud as you've always been. Until our family chain links up again.....Love and miss you forever, Judi
