Mildred "Midge" Cornwell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2025.
Blackstock - Mildred "Midge" Conrad Cornwell, 83, died peacefully on August 16, 2025 entering into the arms of her Heavenly Father.

Visitation will be held at Barron Funeral Home Wednesday August 20th 4:00 PM-7:00 PM. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Cornwell Presbyterian Church Thursday August 21st 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the service in the Church Cemetery.

She was born on February 24, 1942 in Chester, SC. to the late Mildred and Glenn T. Conrad, Sr. She is survived by her children, Lea Cornwell Barriger (Norris), Scott Cornwell (Cheryl), and Edward Cornwell (Kim). She is also survived by grandchildren, "Trip" Barriger, III, Tyler Barriger, "Katie" Barriger, "Capp" Cornwell, IV (Tristen), Blake Cornwell, Addie Cornwell and Hawkins Cornwell, great-grandson, Edward Norris Barriger, and her brother Hawkins Meador Conrad, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John "Jack" Edward Cornwell, III, parents, Mildred and Glenn T. Conrad, Sr., brother, Glenn T. Conrad, Jr., and sister, Jeanell Conrad Robinson.

Midge graduated from Chester County High School where she met her husband Jack. They lived many years in Nashville, TN., before returning to their hometown of Chester and the family homeplace in Cornwell, SC.

Wherever she and Jack lived she was a servant to her faith. She lead by example in the roles of Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher, active in various committees, service projects and women's groups, all the while reaching out as an active member of the communities in which she lived.

She enjoyed her return to Chester and became an active member of her church, Cornwell Presbyterian and the community serving as a member of the Art Council of Chester, the Sunshine Club, Palmetto Club, Bookends, Assembly and Cotillion.

She touched many lives with purpose, dignity and grace. A truly warm and gracious southern lady she was loved by all that met her and those that knew her well. She cherished the gift of dear friendships spanning her lifetime, especially "The High School Girls".

We, her family, are so blessed with wonderful memories of her love, strong faith and true commitment to family and friends.

We are sincerely grateful to all her friends who so generously sent cards and well wishes, visited, and shared their gifts of love during her illness, as well to the staff of Westminster Wellness and Rehab and to Hospice and Community Care, for the overwhelming kindness in their care for her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made sent to Cornwell Presbyterian Cemetery Association, c/o Tim Foster, 2232 Cowlick Drive, Blackstock, SC 29014.
