Mildred Ann Sciuto

Mildred (Millie) Ann Filous Sciuto (born September 27, 1931) passed away peacefully in Northridge, CA at the age of 86, on January 30, 2018. Millie was born to Anna and Frank Filous on a small farm in Valley
City, Ohio, the youngest of seven (brothers Raymond, Frank, Robert, Leonard and George and sister
Marianne). As the youngest of a loving, hard-working, and happy family, Millie enjoyed her years on the farm.

After living in the "big city" of Cleveland, Millie moved to Los Angeles. During the traditional 1950s, Millie was very proud that she was an independent, self-supporting career woman, who embraced the Los Angeles nightlife with her friends. She met her beloved husband, Frank Sciuto, through the Catholic Kolping Society, and they married in June of 1960. Upon their marriage in 1960, Millie and Frank moved into their Northridge house that they would call home that they would fill with love, celebrations and generous hospitality until Frank's death in 2015 and Millie's passing two years later. Their Northridge home was surrounded by loving neighbors and filled with many happy memories of family and friends, who came to view their welcoming household as a second home.

Millie was an incredibly talented woman and dedicated, generous mother, wife, volunteer, and donor. Celebrating her immense list of involvement and devotion, the Vatican, in conjunction with the Archdiocese, honored Millie with the Papal Benedictvs XVI Pont. Maximvs for extraordinary charitable work in the Catholic Church, a unique and crowning achievement. Millie was a 55+ year dedicated member of the Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL) parish in Northridge, CA, where she served multiple times on the Leadership Council of the parish; in numerous positions on the Women's Guild, including President; on the founding committee of OLL's festival and theatre groups; and, assisted in starting the parish school's kindergarten program. For more than 17 years, 'Ms. Millie' worked for OLL's after school program, touching the hearts of hundreds of students she encountered and her many co-workers. Additionally, Millie presided on the Board for the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) for 20+ years, as region President of the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (ACCW), and as a 13+ year Camp Fire Girls Leader. Millie was a 25+ year dedicated supporter of Rancho San Antonio (a residential home serving adolescent boys). Millie's volunteer work is too lengthy to list but will be remembered and appreciated by the thousands she touched.

Millie is survived by her children Ann, Patty, Joe (& Marcie Gilbert), and Jim, and her two beloved grandsons, Vincent and Anthony, who all adore and admire her. In light of her prolific philanthropic achievements, Millie wrote recently that her consummate success was being "...the mother of four wonderful children and two grandsons, and married for 551/2 years to my love."
