Monica Traxler

Monica Josephine Hughes Traxler, age 96, died Sunday morning, January 10, 2010 at Gardenview Nursing Home in Le Sueur. Visitation will be held at Le Center Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 12 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Le Center on Wednesday, January 11 at 10:00 a.m.Monica was born on September 1, 1913 to John Henry and Rosella (Sullivan) Hughes in Mankato. She attended school in Waterville and graduated from the College of St. Benedict with a degree in education. Monica taught high school English in Herman, Morristown, Lake Crystal and Le Center.Monica married Anthony "Tony" Traxler on June 21, 1943 at Holy Trinity Church in Waterville. Together they farmed in St. Henry. Monica enjoyed her family, sewing, gardening, traveling, and visiting with family and friends.She was involved with her parishes as director of St. Henry's Choir for many years and a member of the choir at St. Mary's. She served Meals on Wheels, participated in the VFW Auxiliary, was Outstanding Senior Citizen, and helped start the CARE Program in Le Center. She was also involved with 4-H, the Pioneer Power Program, and Senior Citizen's Club.Monica is survived by three sons, Peter of Ennis, Montana, Earle and Dianne of Le Sueur, and Tim and Jeanne of Le Sueur; three daughters, Leone and Bruce Loween of Alexandria, Jean and Bradley Nyblom of St. Peter, and Rosie and Tom Clifford of Minneapolis; two sister-in-laws, Marcella Hayden of Le Sueur and Ethel Phelps of Alexandria; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Rosella Hughes and her husband, Tony.
