MONTY DALE PLATT Obituary
Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 11, 2017 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Robert A. Busch, Ph.D, as celebrant. A vigil will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Brooks Chapel with Deacon Gabe Rivas officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery.
Monty Dale Platt was born on October 17, 1969 in Canyon to Tommy Joe and Patricia Tucker Platt. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from West Texas State University. He was a 24 year veteran of law enforcement and worked for the West Texas A&M University Police department, his extended family. Monty loved his career and was dedicated to the service of others. He was a member of the Blue Knights and HOG.
He married RoseAnne Rivera at St. Thomas Catholic Church on August 24, 2002, and Monty dearly loved his son, Thomas Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tommy Joe Platt, and a son, Daniel James Platt.
He is survived by his wife, RoseAnne Platt, of the home; his son, Thomas Joseph Platt, of the home; a sister, Melissa Mosley and husband, Robert of Amarillo; two nephews, Logan and Max Mosley; and his mother, Patricia Platt, of Canyon.
The family suggests memorials be to the Thomas Platt Scholarship Fund. Deposits can be made at any First United Bank.

Wow, so sorry to hear about this. My prayers to your family. I was raised in Canyon and remember Monty from years ago, and all through our school years. Although I have not seen Monty in years, I know the kind of person he was. A kind and good hearted person, the kind of person we need helping others this day and age... What a loss of a good person...I am sure he was an amazing family man and a great father. So sorry.

I met Officer Monty 2 years ago when Marissa was a freshman. He saw me walking across campus many times back & forth after dark & asked if I was ok. I said I was moving my daughter into Centennial hall & was parking all our cars. She has a handicap permit & so I was parking over by the library. He drove me back & forth twice, showed me where the handicap area was at her dorm & made sure she knew how to get in & out with shorter walking distance. He gave me his card in case I needed anything before I drove back to Odessa. He then for the 2 years she lived on campus made sure she was ok & when she would come home on short breaks he would watch her car at the dorms so it was safe. Made it a part of his route to pass where she parked. He went above & beyond for us many times. What a tragic loss.

There are no words that come to me to say how sorry I am for your loss. It's been years since we had spoken and it still seemed like only yesterday. The memories are miles long and all amazing. May you find comfort in the Gospel and in the strength of family.

As a young man, Monty always helped my grandparents, JC and Fern Newton. They both loved Monty. After my granddad passed, Monty still helped my grandmother keep their place up.
