Myron Figoten Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 1, 2023.
Myron Figoten, age 69, of Nokomis, Florida, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on July 2, 2023.

Myron was born in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from University of Connecticut and he and his wife raised their family in Columbia, CT. Myron worked in medical malpractice insurance and later became a substitute teacher at RHAM in Hebron, CT and then for Sarasota County Schools in FL.

Myron viewed nature and travel with wonderment. He enjoyed the outdoors and was enthusiastic about boating, hiking and biking. He cared for animals throughout his life and adored raising his dogs. He liked watching birds and had a soft spot for whistling ducks.

Myron famously said every good meal was the best meal he ever had. He was known for his tasty stir fry dishes and his collection of Asian spices and condiments. He relished an evening strawberry daiquiri and mastered the art of sneaking extra dessert.

Myron cheered for UConn women's basketball so loudly he'd shake the room. He laughed until he cried at Broadway shows like The Play That Goes Wrong and Hairspray. He disliked board games but treasured playing board games with family.

Myron took pride in always having the tools for any job and enjoyed working on cars with a good friend. He was kind and generous with his time and would go out of his way to help anyone with any project. He will be missed for his easy laugh and curiosity about the world.

Myron was devoted to his family. He was blindly supportive of his eldest son and showed unwavering interest in everything they did together except when it came to watching movies with too many curse words. Additionally, upon learning his youngest son is gay, Myron vocally supported gay rights and frequently sported a rainbow heart sticker around town. Myron was also quietly sentimental. He saved a large collection of handmade holiday cards from family and safeguarded the baby teeth he collected while serving as tooth fairy to his sons.

Myron will live on in the hearts of Sandy, his wife of 42 years, his sons Jeremy and Ben, his sister-in-law, Dee, his brother-in-law, Bob, his nieces, Alli and Megan, his friends, and his beloved Bernedoodle, Zoey.
