Nancy Farkas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 10, 2025.
Nancy Madelaine Farkas, 82, of Westland, MI, entered eternal rest on June 10, 2025, following a prolonged battle with stroke-related health issues.

Born on September 20, 1942, in Detroit, she was the daughter of the late Armand and Bernice Gosselin. Nancy was raised in the Motor City alongside her siblings Dorine, Ron, and Delores, and cousins Bobbie and Virg. After graduating from Cody High School, she went on to work at The New York Public Library, Detroit Free Press, and Sony Corporation, where she spent most of her career managing the Human Resources and Service Operations departments. A determined entrepreneur, she also owned and operated her own residential and commercial cleaning business for more than two decades.

Nancy thrived at work; however, nothing made her happier than becoming a mother. Her daughter Ashley was the light of her life. She could not go anywhere without talking about Ashley and bragging about her personal and professional accomplishments. Although she cannot be with her on Earth any longer, Nancy will forever be Ashley's guardian angel in Heaven.

A devout Christian, Nancy served for many years as a Sunday School teacher at Immanuel Lutheran Church and remained a faithful churchgoer. She was also known as the life of the party and had an infectious energy and a gift for conversation. Her love of gab would take place over breakfast at Ram's Horn, while watching classic cars during the Woodward Dream Cruise, volunteering at the former Webster Elementary School as lunch supervisor, over the phone, or while attending plays, concerts, and art festivals. She also took immense pride in her home and was known for having fun holiday décor in her front yard and one of the best-kept lawns in the neighborhood.

Nancy was a passionate sports fan and cheered enthusiastically for the Michigan State Spartans, Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and Vegas Golden Knights. She loved spending time watching games on TV or attending live sporting events. She also had a special talent for shopping-whether at thrift stores, garage sales, or retail outlets-and delighted in finding great deals on clothes, jewelry, and shoes. She would regularly send care packages to Ashley's office with her latest fashion finds - the unboxing became so popular that colleagues started asking when the next "Nancy Farkas Couture Collection" package would arrive.

Those who knew Nancy will remember her warm smile, deep-rooted faith in Jesus, and unwavering commitment to spreading kindness to everyone she encountered. She had a special gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed her path. Although Nancy's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all we do.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Ashley Farkas; siblings Dorine (Rick) Jacobs, Ron (Nancy) Gosselin, and Delores (Nicholas; d. 2014) Hrisca, along with dozens of cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends she called family and loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church (27035 Ann Arbor Trail), followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon at Noon at Deluca's (27424 Warren Road).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests cash and/or clothing donations be made in Nancy's memory to Vista Maria (20651 W. Warren St.), a social services organization that helps women and children in need. Nancy was a loyal supporter of Vista Maria for more than 25 years.

Ashley, you mom was such a special friend to me for over 40 years. She was my son's Godmother and I thought the world of her. She adored you and you made her so proud. You were her world and she could not have asked for a better daughter. RIP dear friend.
