Nancy Hughes, 84, of East Syracuse, died peacefully. Born in Schenectady, she graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1948. She met her husband, William on a blind date and following their marriage they lived in Alaska where he worked on the Alaskan Pipeline. They returned to East Syracuse in 1962. Nancy participated in Folks Marches, was a literacy volunteer and volunteered with the Syracuse Chargers Special Olympics.

She was predeceased by her husband, William; her parents, Bessie and Earl; cousin, Doris Egan and her husband, Edwin.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Catalano (Joe) of Orlando and Sally Hughes (Ed Colvin) of East Syracuse; granddaughter, Geena Catalano of Orlando; nieces, Marsha Egan of Clay, Mary Barber of Camillus and Amy Pugliese of Mahopac; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family and friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville.

A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m., Pastor Donna Chapman of the Whitelaw Presbyterian Church officiating.

Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, CNY Chapter, 441 Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
