BRISTOL, Va. – Nancy Elizabeth Stoots Melvin, age 68, our precious loving wife, mother, grandma and sister, who we loved to be with more than anything, went home to be with Jesus, with her family by her side, on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Bristol and had been a resident of the High Point community for most of her life. She graduated from Wallace High School in 1958 and worked at Bassett's Dairy, Bristol Drug and Parks-Belk briefly. She retired from Raytheon after 26 years.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Bob Stoots; her mother, Flora Stoots; and a brother, Harold Stoots.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, James "Jim" Melvin; three children, James E. Melvin II and wife Kimberly, Susan Jane Vannoy and Matthew Shane Melvin; three grandchildren, Chelsea Vannoy, Kirsty Vannoy and Tyler Melvin; three brothers, Bill Stoots and wife Joyce of Bristol Virginia, Roger Stoots and wife Beryl of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Mical Stoots and wife Brownie of Bristol Tennessee; three sisters, Peggy Presnell and husband Roy of Loveland, Colo., Mary Jane Taylor and husband Ray of Bristol Virginia and Phyllis Jessee and husband Wayne of Thornton, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Clara Stoots; several nieces and nephews; and her husband's parents, Frances and John W. Melvin Jr.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at High Point Presbyterian Church, with Brother Joe Hudson and Brother Phil Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in High Point Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Travis Melvin, Scott Frazier, Roy Tallman, Ray Taylor, Wayne Jessee, Jay Melvin, Mark Taylor, Joey Taylor, Mical Stoots and Bill Stoots. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Strong in Grace Sunday school class at Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Relay for Life or Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church, c/o Brother Joe Hudson, 104 Cypress St., Bristol, TN 37620. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected].
The family will receive friends at Akard Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Akard Funeral Home.
