Nancy Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 7, 2025.
Nancy Louise Marshall Miller, whose beauty touched both hearts and lives throughout Marin County, has gone Home to be with her Lord and Savior. Nancy, known affectionately as Nan, passed away on January 29th, 2025, after a long battle with cancer at Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Center in Wilmington, NC.

A woman who balanced grace with public service, Nancy's journey began in Washington DC, born to Harold Vincent and Myrtle Louise Baird Marshall. She was raised in Landover & Cheverly, MD, before moving to VA, NC, WV, and ultimately settling in Marin County, CA, for the last thirty-two years.

After graduating from Bladensburg High School, Nancy embarked on an extraordinary career at the State Department. As an Executive Secretary, she had the honor of flying aboard Air Force One with the Secretary of State and was crowned Miss State Department in 1966.

However, it was her role as a mother that she considered her greatest calling. With unwavering love, she devoted herself to raising her two sons and embraced her stepson as her own, creating a legacy of unconditional love.

After moving to CA, Nancy served the community through her work at the Marin Housing Authority for over two decades, where her compassion and dedication touched countless lives. Her colleagues and clients alike knew her as someone who went above and beyond, treating everyone she encountered with dignity and care. As a lifelong Christian, she was always an active and faithful member of congregations wherever she lived. Most recently of People's Inter-Cities Fellowship in Marin City and Marin Covenant Church in San Rafael, CA. Nancy shared her love, lifting spirits with her voice and presence.

Those who knew Nancy often spoke of her remarkable beauty - both inside and out. She had a special gift for celebrating others, never missing an occasion to send a heartfelt card to friends and family, ensuring everyone felt remembered and cherished.

Nancy is survived by her long-time fiancé, Kenny Miles of Yountville, CA; her loving son Brandyn Miller (Genie), along with grandsons Scott and Colyn of Myrtle Beach, SC; and her stepson Carl Miller (Marci), with their daughters Hallie and Rory of Richmond, VA.

She also leaves behind her siblings: Sherrie Marshall Faber (Dane) of Sausalito, CA; Donna Lee Marshall-Nail of Woodstock, VA; and Harold Vincent (Vince) Marshall (Anne) of Arvonia, VA. Nan also leaves behind her niece Meagan Meyer (Derek) of Petaluma, CA; Wade King (Lisa) of Gaithersburg, MD; Nicholas Marshall of Arvonia, VA; Steven Marshall of Falling Waters, WV; and Jeffrey Marshall-Nail of Sacramento, CA.

She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved son Aaron Troy Miller in 1991, and her sister Martha Marshall Harner (Timmy) in 2014.

Nancy's life was a testament to the power of leading with love and grace. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the community she served. Her beautiful spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family thanks her many health care providers at Kaiser SF & Marin and UCSF, close friends, neighbors, and her sister Sherrie, for their amazing care over the last few years. She felt truly blessed to have the care here, then in South and North Carolina for her last few months.

The west coast Celebration of Life will be held at Cornerstone Community Church, 626 Drake Ave, Marin City, CA, on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Marcus Small of People's Inter-Cities Fellowship, officiating. Please visit https://nancylouise.com/ for additional details on Nan's life and the Celebrations planned to honor her.

The east coast Celebration of Life will held at Passion Community Church (PCC) 2723 James Madison Hwy in Bremo Bluff (Fork Union), VA on April 12th. See website for details.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Lower Cape Fear Life Care Hospice, https://lifecare.org/ who lovingly cared for Nancy in her final months.

A beautiful Christian woman who's love for Jesus Christ flowed from her heart to others, expressing kindness, joy and hope to many. She was a friend given to hospitality and thoughtful care of those around her. A listening ear and a readiness to celebrate with others a birthday or a meal was a special characteristic of her generosity. My only consolation after 32 years of friendship, is losing her to Heaven and this means Joy and Peace forever with the Lord.

I worked with Nancy for many years. She was a sweet and calm presence in our hectic office. We also went out as friends. She was so nice, positive, caring and fun. We went to the movies and dancing. I will miss her.
