Nancy Rice Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 21, 2025.
Nancy Clara Rice (Liby) passed away peacefully at Homeplace Hospice in Tyler, Texas on February 16th after a long battle with multiple medical problems. She had been cared for at home for the last few years by her husband Don, whom she had met in high school in Port Arthur, Texas, and married in 1960.

Nancy excelled in high school and college and went on to be involved with numerous projects and foundations, including her work with the Stark House in Orange, Texas, alongside her beloved and lifelong friend Patsy. Though she enjoyed her activities and friends, her never-ending passion was for her two boys, Jonathan and David. She devoted her adult life to raising and caring for them.

Later in life, Nancy and Don retired from their life in Orange and moved several times to places including Hackberry, Louisiana; Salado, Texas; Frankston, Texas, and eventually down the road to Tyler, Texas. In Salado, Nancy enjoyed her time working in an antique/boutique store owned by her friend Katherine. In Frankston, she was thankful to be close (across the street!) to her younger sister Molly and her husband Roy. Molly and Roy provided a great deal of love, care, and attention for Nancy as her health continued to decline. Our family will always be grateful for their kindness.

Nancy also had the blessing of her neighbor in Frankston, Teresa. Teresa was an absolute Godsend for Don and Nancy, providing incredible care for Nancy as well as heartfelt meals and support for Don. Our entire family feels honored, grateful, and incredibly blessed to have met Teresa and her family.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Don; her sons Jonathan and David and their wives Janie and Holly; her sister Molly and her husband Roy; as well as multiple grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Currently, plans are pending for private memorial services. If anyone wishes to consider any memorial tributes, please consider an animal rescue or charity of your choice. Nancy had a huge place in her heart for all animals, especially her beloved German Shepards.
