Nancy Zeidlik Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2024.
In hindsight, there probably should have been a family myth about Nancy Ann Zeidlik that held she was born on November 14, 1954, with a kitten already in her arms. Kitties were Nancy's soul mates.

As Nancy gained years, her love, care and commitment to rescuing cats never faltered. Her joy of serving cats, which she was quick to explain was much more fun than working with people, culminated when she built "Casey's Place," an exquisite kennel for cats where each cat or cat family had a full-sized bedroom with a human bed, cat tree, and cushioned bench for those cats who loved sitting in front of the window watching the bird and wildlife on the 4-acre property. She was grateful to her many clients who became part of the Casey Place family, and to veterinarian, Dr John Baillie, and his staff at The Cedar Pet Clinic in Lake Elmo, MN.

Nancy was also dedicated to serving the needs of injured birds. She cared for wild birds needing rehabilitation for over a decade, including some from the University of Minnesota's Raptor Center.

In more recent years, Nancy became a constant supporter of endangered species worldwide. She was careful about which sanctuaries she donated to and was especially committed to Carol Buckley's work at "Elephant Aid International" as well as "The Wild Animal Sanctuary" in Keenesburg, Colorado.

In addition she was a big supporter of local humane society's. Especially "Northwoods Human Society" in Wyoming Minnesota. We know she would appreciate memorial donations made in her name, if any friends or family feel inclined. https://northwoodshs.org/ways-to-support/

Nancy passed away of natural causes in her home on in late July 2024. She is survived by her son, Joshua Zeidlik-Zimney, her older sister, Bonnie Thompson (husband, Marc) and her youngest brother, Tom Zeidlik (wife, Kelli, and their daughters Nikki and Mindy). She was preceded in death by her husband, John Zeidlik-Zimney, her mother, Eileen, her father, Robert, and her younger brother, Al.

Since Nancy's family and friends are spread across the nation and world, a memorial service will not be held in Minnesota for her. Instead, a memorial page has been set up on Legacy.com. The family would be touched by any memories, photos, or stories those who knew Nancy might like to share.

Nancy was her own person, strong in her love and commitment to the well being of critters needing attention, care and love. She was, in every sense of the word, a true "cat lady" and she wore the title with pride.

Paul and Terry Gottwaldt
Josh, Bonnie and Tom, we were only able to use Nancy's services 2 or three times for our 3 feline children the last in 2019. But the first time when we left them we knew they would be well taken care of and we had nothing to worry about. When we called about future possible dates she remembered our three boys and their names. After 2019 we were not able to get away again and our cats started to have health issues, but I would check in at the web site when it looked like we might be able to go and I always felt good just knowing she was in the world taking good care of animals. We lost the last of our threesome in November and got two young healthy boys since, which made us think that after they settled in this spring we might try a short trip. Thats when we looked up Casey's place and learned of Nancy's passing. Hit us pretty hard and after reading her obituary it is clear that cats, animals and the people who love them have lost a very special person. You have our deepest sympathy, Paul and Terry

My love and sympathy to Josh, Bonnie and Tom. I am still finding it hard to believe Nancy is not with us anymore but am content knowing she busy with family and animals in her new home.

Nancy was 6 years younger than me, so my better memories are of more recent years as we shared emails. Sadly, those kind of dwindled the last couple years. But, Josh, I love the photo u have of her on this site. I have it in my gallery, as after my sisters and I attended your Dad's memorial service, she asked me to send photos of my haircut because she wanted to take them to her hair stylist and have her hair cut that way. We didn't end up looking like the "bobbsey twins" though, cause she had so much natural curl and mine is stick straight!! So that photo will always be special.

Josh, I know you have quite a job ahead of you getting her affairs settled, but thankfully Bonnie and Tom are there for you. Bonnie tells me you have a wonderful support group of friends too. I am so pleased I finally met you and had a great visit with you at your Dad's memorial. I will always keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I am sending a memorial in her name to Northwoods Humane Society.

Love to my Uncle Robert Zeidlik Family from,

I loved Nancy because she genuinely loved people in addition to the animals she loved. She was a great listener and had good advice to share. She will be missed.

I have a sense of peace and contentment knowing our beloved Nancy is now with her mom, dad and brother Al. God has a special place for her in heaven caring for all the animals up there. Some of my favorite memories include our family trips to the cities to spend time with our "favorite " cousins. We made up plays and performed for our parents in the basement of your home. I think Al was the brains behind that operation if I remember correctly, but we all participated with great enthusiasm!

Sending my condolences and love to her family. Cousin Joni

Nancy was a friend to so many needy animals, sharing her home and her support. We are sincerely grateful for her commitment to the welfare of the elephants in our care at Elephant Aid International. She will be dearly missed. Carol, staff, and Bo, Tarra and Mundi
