I remember Nathan when he was young and lived in Carlsbad, New Mexico. My parents lived there and when we would visit, we enjoyed getting to know the entire Hartman family. I think of Nathan often because our son is named Jonathan and their son Nathan is 17. Every life is precious and grieving is a very personal and individual journey of faith and exploration, that begins to reveal to us what we believe and trust and wonder. Questions are part of how we learn and grow, but they bring their own pain and mystery. Even if we don't find an answer, they are still worth asking. Marilyn, I think often of you and your sister and how it must have been for you two to lose your mother to death when you were so young, and now this loss of your son. We hope to travel to Hesston in mid-August to see Stan's Uncle Paul. Hopefully we can also see you, Peter, and your brother Paul.

We remember Nathan most from the years in Carlsbad, NM, when our parents, Nelson and Eunice Mae Histand, lived there, and so much enjoyed having the Hartmans as nearby relatives. We are thinking of each of you, Peter, Marilyn, Treva, Alice, Luke, Curtis, Kathy, Paul, and the other extended family and friends. May you be upheld by God's love and grace, and the care of those who are near at hand. Love and Prayers, Delores and Stan Friesen

Nathan was so unfailingly kind. I remember for a while I ran into him every time I went to the gas station, and he always had a warm smile and a kind word. This is such a tragic loss.
