Neil Hammond Obituary
East Leroy
Neil David Hammond, age 89, of East Leroy passed away May 22, 2016 at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence in Battle Creek.
Neil was born on July 3, 1926 in Dowling, MI to Vern and Gladys (Aspinall) Hammond. He married Doris Phillips in East Leroy on February 3, 1947. They shared 66 loving years together. Doris preceded Neil in death in April of 2013.
Neil starting his own excavating business called Hammond Sanitation in 1950. He operated the business for 45 years until his retirement in 1995.
Neil loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was always ready to help others.
Neil is survived by his children, Bonnie (John) DeGolia of Battle Creek, John (Sue) Hammond of Climax, Robert (Brenda) Hammond of Deltona, FL, Brian (Kris) Hammond of Hillsborough, NC, and Neil (Heather) Hammond of Ann Arbor; 9 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Vonda Lake of North Carolina, and Vada Yearsley of Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, brother, Man Hammond, and sister, Margie Trader.
Relatives and friends will be received from 1-2PM at the Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Shaw Chapel, 2838 SW Capital Ave. Battle Creek on May 24, 2016. A memorial service celebrating the life of Neil will take place at 2PM on May 24, 2016 at the funeral home with Reverend James Codde officiating.
Memorial contributions are requested to the Bronson at Home Hospice Residence. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home, Shaw Chapel.
