Nelson L Vanhorn, 80, went to be with his Savior and Lord December 8, 2022 at a Bradenton hospital. He was born August 30, 1942 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Rex L and Irene (Bircher) Vanhorn.
Nelson graduated from Springfield High School, class of 1960. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force in the U.S and abroad. In August of this year he celebrated 50 yrs of marriage. Nelson had some college during his military years and also spent several years in Bible Study Fellowship. He also served in leadership for Awana. He ministered several years to the homeless with Inner City Church Planting Ministries. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader. He had a quick wit and always enjoyed bringing humor into situations.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by one brother and 5 sisters. Surviving in addition to his wife, Bette (Pipe) Vanhorn are his sons, Roger Vanhorn and family, Eric Vanhorn and family both of Springfield; daughters from Springfield are Deborah Lear and family, Cindy Sugg and family, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; two brothers Larry W Vanhorn and Dale Vanhorn and his wife Cheri all of Springfield, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 22 at Brown and Sons Funeral Home & Crematory 26th Chapel 5624 26th St W. Bradenton, FL 34207 is in charge of the arrangements. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72 Sarasota, FL
