BURLINGTON — Nettie Hodges Bowland, 86, of 5951 N. NC 62, Burlington, N.C., passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 7, at Long's Chapel Christian Church, with Rev. James Baughn, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Union Ridge Christian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Bowland was born in Caswell County, N.C. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Long's Chapel Christian Church. She was a member of the Democratic Women of Alamance County. Mrs. Bowland and her husband, Edwin Turner Bowland, Sr. were awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by former Gov. Robert Scott. In 1991, Nettie was named Citizen of the Year by the Pleasant Grove Fire Department.
Survivors include son, Randy Malloy Bowland, Burlington, N.C.; grandson, Blair Rowland, Burlington, N.C.; god child, Clay Bowland Smith, Mebane, N.C.; daughter in law, Janice Bowland and husband, Jimmy, Burlington, N.C.; sisters, Irene Walker, Burlington, N.C., LaVerne Albright, Burlington, N.C., Scottie Pettigrew, Haw River, N.C.; brother, George Hodges, Danville, Va.; sister in law , Gertrude Bowland, Burlington, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was Preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Edwin Turner Bowland, Sr.; sons , Edwin Turner "Eddie" Bowland, Jr., Andy Hodges Bowland, Rickey Glenn Bowland; parents, Johnny Emanuel Hodges and Bertha Foster Hodges; sisters , Annie Lou Hanks, Hattie Thompson, Sarah Everette, Nancy Everette; brothers , John Malloy Hodges (Nettie's twin brother), Kenneth Hodges, Dewey Hodges.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday evening at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. Other times they will be at the residence.
Memorials May be made to Long's Chapel Christian Church or the charity of your choice.
