OSKALOOSA — Neva Marie Jenkins, 81, of 304 Evans Randolph St., Oskaloosa, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008.Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Garland-VanArkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Durst officiating, and burial at Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, March 12, with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m.The daughter of Russell and Pearl (Kitzman) Stanley, she was born April 7, 1926, in Mahaska County. Her younger years were spent around the Thornburg-What Cheer area. She graduated from the Thornburg School in 1944. Neva was married in Oskaloosa on May 7, 1947, to Ralph Gaffney Jenkins, and they spent the rest of their life in Evans. To this union, two children were born; a son, Noah Gaffney Jenkins, and a daughter, Linda Marie Jenkins.Surviving are her daughter, Linda Marie Jenkins, of Oskaloosa; one sister, Zelma Morrison, of What Cheer; one brother, Russell Stanley, of What Cheer; and numerous relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph in 1976; her son Noah in 2002; her father and mother; three sisters: Ola Stanley, Jean DeJong and Pearl Elaine Stanley; and both sets of grandparents.Neva helped with the gathering and making of the History of Evans. She enjoyed participating with Train and Coal Mining Days at the Oskaloosa mall. She was secretary/treasurer of Evans Union Church for over 25 years, and a lifetime Evans Fellowship Ladies Club member. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School to the children, and Vacation Bible School, and often filling in as Pastor when needed.Neva enjoyed the the outdoors, gardening, birds, her flowers and embroidery work.Memorials may be made to Neva’s family in care of daughter Linda, 304 Evans Randolph St., Oskaloosa, IA.This obituary is viewable at www.legacy.com
