Nicholas Rizzo Obituary

Rizzo, Nicholas Anthony
EAST GREENBUSH - Nicholas Rizzo died on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Nick was an incredibly caring, compassionate man of faith who spent every day of his life helping his loved ones and others around him.
Nick was born in Albany on August 18, 1943. He graduated from Philip Schuyler High School and then moved on to serve in the National Guard. A prideful craftsman, he was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #370 for 35 years.
He will be remembered by the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Lorraine; his only daughter, Elaina (Joe) Ferracane; and his grandchildren, Chris and Alyssa Ferracane. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Nicholas and Rose Rizzo. He was a devoted older brother to Tony (Diane) and Joe (Beryl) Rizzo, and uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was happiest when surrounded by his family, celebrating their many achievements and supporting them in the hardest of times.
He spent many seasons with family and friends in Myrtle Beach showing off his skills as an avid golfer and fisherman. He loved cooking with vegetables grown in his garden and cheering on the New York Giants and the Yankees. Nick's favorite time of the year was the holidays, when he opened his home to all for food, laughs, and viewing his famous Snow Village train set.
Nick drew strength from his faith in God his whole life. He sought to spread kindness and light to everyone he crossed paths with. He embraced the church community at St. Mary's as if it was his own family. Singing in the choir was his pride and joy and something he cherished at the end of his life.
Nick's family would like to thank Adriana, Amy, and the staff at 5 Mcauley and the E.R. at St. Peter's Hospital for their around-the-clock care and dedication to keeping him comfortable.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Nick's family on Tuesday, December 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpke., Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, at 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights in Rensselaer, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands immediately following the funeral Mass.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Nick may send a contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his name.

Dear Lorraine and Family,

We were shocked to hear of the passing of our beloved Nick. He was a wonderful man and added much love to our family of St. Mary's. His beautiful voice of the angels brought the Lord's peace into our hearts at every mass. We enjoyed our talks, and he was truly a brave man always with a bright smile of hope. May you hold Nick close to your hearts and remember the special moments that brightened your days throughout the years. Words, however kind, can’t mend your heartache, but we who care for you share your grief and wish you comfort and peace of mind. We pray that the love of family and friends will help strengthen you in the days ahead. Stay strong and remember we will be here for you always. May you feel the light of the Lord blessing your family and bringing you peace. Sending our sympathies during this time of sorrow and praying that God’s love will embrace you. Remember one more star will rise in the sky as Heaven has gained a new saint.

Holy Mary, Mother of God and St. Joseph, pray for us. Amen+

Forever our love, prayers, and deepest condolences,
Dorothy, Jerry, & Family
