Nick Adenhart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 9, 2009.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart and two other people were killed Thursday when a minivan ran a red light and struck their sports car, authorities said.

Adenhart, 22, died after undergoing surgery, University of California, Irvine Medical Center spokesman John Murray said.

A fourth person remained hospitalized in critical condition.

Adenhart, of Silver Springs, Md., was the Angels' No. 3 starter. He threw six scoreless innings Wednesday night in his fourth major-league start and first of the season. Oakland won the game 6-4.

Adenhart and three other people were in a silver Mitsubishi that was struck shortly before 12:30 a.m. by a minivan that ran a red light and also hit another vehicle, police said.

The sports car struck a light pole, killing three people inside.

Police Lt. Craig Brower said the minivan driver fled the crash scene and was captured a short time later. The driver was arrested and booked for investigation of felony hit-and-run.

Adenhart, a right-hander, earned a spot in the starting rotation on an injury-plagued Angels staff by impressing manager Mike Scioscia late in spring training.

The pitcher made his major league debut May 1 of last year, also against Oakland. He made two other starts, getting his only decision in a victory over the Chicago White Sox on May 12. He was 37-28 in the minor leagues from 2005-08, including 9-13 last year at Triple-A Salt Lake.

For Nick...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

To Nick. I wish I could have seen you pitch, and I know that I was about to get introduced to a lifetime of watching you play ball, but I never got that opportunity, but you did more in your 22 beautiful years, and made so many people happy, especaily your dad, and your grandparents, who I always admired when I was growing up. You were and will forever be in so many hearts, and loved by everyone. I can also say that I include you in all my prayers along with your dad, and gradparents, Jim, and Connie. I was distracted with my son's career, and didn't get to enjoy you, but my mother always told me how well you were doing, and she listened to all of your games. We all have such a short time here on earth when you look at the big picture, and you made the most out of all your time here, and probably more than anyone could expect. I will also love your dad for the brave guy he is. He is so strong. I wish I could be half the man he is. God bless you Nick Adenhart, and all the Adenhart family. Love Gus Maestrales.

A dream projected to eternity: The game goes on!

One month has gone by since young Nicholas James Adenhart existence was projected to eternity.

The fact has given me much to think of and I believe I am not the only one. One thing for instance is that during his good-lived life in this world, Nick taught everyone lessons about the way to live a dream with courage and dedication.

At this very moment I don’t know much of how Nick felt deep inside, what he thought or what he was personally preparing for the future. The only thing I know is that he was on the track of his own dream. Nevertheless, I have drawn my own conclusion (and I am sure of it): Nick is still in the game! He threw us all a ball as he parted and those who parted along with him count on the game in their very right positions.

As there have been many heartfelt sympathy demonstrations in this site from closest people to the Adenhart family, I really appreciate this chance to set mine since I am not close at all. I trust to have found a respectful and heartfelt way to encourage you.

I was very saddened to hear of this story...such promising young adults who will never have a chance to show what they could have done. Although Nick let us know where he was going that last night when he pitched a great game. It is these situations where most wonder, why God, but our Faith must prevail. We must take comfort in knowing God has something much better for them in heaven. My prayers are with the families as you try and get through this difficult time. God bless you all.

I was sorry to read about your loss and would like to extend my condolences. When death separate family members, such loss can result in deep sorrow. The Bible assures us that it is God's will that we live forever under His kingdom that is soon to rule the earth. (Matt.6:9,10;Ps.37:10,11,29) May memories of happy times and the love and support of family and friends comfort you all in the days ahead
