Nora Surgenor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 29 to May 30, 2007.
SURGENOR (McCauley), Nora Isabell October 26, 1928 - May 27, 2007 Isabell was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 1993. She will be forever missed by her four children; Mac (Shirley) of Athabasca, Susan, Holly (Dave) Ridyard, and Nora (Glen) Onyett of Edmonton; seven grandchildren; Lisa and Robin Surgenor, Matt (Tracy) and Thomas Ridyard (Alana), Jalene, Kailyn and Shaina Seitz and two great-grandchildren; Carter and Emily Ridyard. Isabell is also survived by her sister, Marjorie (Walter) and two brothers, Leslie (Betty) and Harold (Jean) and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends all across Canada and abroad. Mom's life motto was based on the CGIT Purpose and her faith in God. Through her faith, her nursing career and her family, Mom exemplified integrity, honour, love, courage and strength and has influenced the lives of everyone who has had the privilege to have known her. She will be remembered for her sense of humour, her infectious giggle and her incredibly positive attitude and love toward people and life. Mom lived her beliefs everyday and looked for the good in every situation. Mom, as well as our family, wanted to express immeasurable gratitude to Dr. Amin Pisani and Sylvia Zuidema and the exemplary doctors and staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Dialysis Units (Satellite and 5th Floor) and the staff on Unit 42 who made Mom's time spent in their care as comfortable as possible. We would also like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Grace Manor (Salvation Army) where Mom thoroughly loved living the last three years. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Wednesday, May 30th, 2007 at 1:00 p.m at Kirk United Church, 13535 - 122 Avenue with her life long friend, Reverend Nettie Hoffman of Toronto along with Reverend Bob Kimmerly officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to: CGIT Camp WoHeLo, P.O. Box 66067, Heritage Postal Stn., Edmonton, AB T6J 6T4, Renal Satellite Unit (RAH Hospital), 10240 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 3V9 and the Salvation Army Grace Manor, 12510 - 140 Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5X 6C4 will be gratefully accepted. Dear Surgenor Family
All of us at Grace Manor are sorry that Isabell is no longer with us in the physical sence, because spiritually she will be with us always. Isabell was a wonderful, wonderful lady.
She accepted people for who they where, unconditional love. She walked the talk! She was the expression of the Love of Christ.
As we know, none of us are perfect, but Isabell was pretty darn close.
Our love to you all!
With fond memories, all of us at Grace Manor.

Hi to all the family!
Please accept our sympathy and prayers of support as you go through this time of sadness and loss. Both of us having lost both our parents, my brother (Wayne), and other loved ones, we empathize and share the pain that you've all come through. May God grant you healing and lots of great 'good memory moments.'
I have always admired Auntie Nora and hoped to emulate her faith, broad-ranging interest in others and the world in general. She was very special.
We are also conveying greetings and condolences from Lorne Miljure who is unable to do it himself. Your parents meant a great deal to him and made a huge difference in his life.

As one of the nurses who cared for Isabel while she was on dialysis, I was saddened to hear of her passing. I know the pain she suffered in her last few months and take some comfort in the fact that she is now pain free. I am also sorry she never made the trip she so wished to take. I will always remember her and miss our intelligent conversations

Dear cousins Susan, Mac & Shirley, Holly & Dave, Nora Jean & Glen, and all your children. Although we are saddened to have another loved one pass through to the beyond, we find comfort knowing Aunty Nora is now free of pain and re-united with Uncle Jim. God bless you all and may you find comfort knowing that many people are feeling for you at this sad time. Aunty Nora will always be remembered for her cheerful manner and great sense of humor.

What an incredible woman Isabell was. I have many happy and special memories of her. Her voice was reasuring and she spoke with grace and caring. I loved hearing her as she gave a reflection at a Unit meeting or church service. Her smile and the warmth of her personality will stay with me always. I feel very blessed to have known her.
