Norma Elena Blanco, age 87, was born in Panama on May 20, 1933. Norma was the daughter of Hazel and Maxamino Daley.
She was the wife of Charles Blanco, a retired navy sailor.
Norma Blanco is survived by her brother Lenard Stout, her six children: Carlos Blanco Sr., Roy Blanco, Donna Blanco, Ricky Blanco, Renee Blanco and Lenny Blanco. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles Blanco.
As the matriarch of her family, Norma held family unity in high esteem. Family gatherings were seen as opportunities to break bread and to strengthen bonds. Feeding loved ones as well as family friends was a second language to Norma. This action was easily interpreted, “I love you therefore sit and eat at my table” Saying grace was the only prerequisite.
As a daughter of the Excelsior Temple Number 144, Norma supported many civic initiatives. Among which were education and scholarships for continued education for underserved communities.
Faith in God and studying the Bible was the center of Norma’s existence. (Proverbs 31:10-31)
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 20 at 10 a.m. at Abounding Grace Ministries Church, 3 Connecticut Ave., New London. Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will follow in Jordan Cemetery, Waterford.
