It is with great sadness that the family of Norma Catherine Goff (nee MacDermid) announces her passing on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the age of 77 years. Norma was born in Detroit, Michigan and lived and grew up in Romulus, Michigan graduating from Romulus High School in 1960. She studied Fashion Design at Western Michigan University then traveled with a friend to San Francisco where she worked at KABC. She returned to Michigan and worked for several companies including WKNR before taking a job as a Secretary at the Department of State in 1968 where she had the opportunity to travel and live all over the world including Kaduna, Nigeria; Singapore, The Republic of Singapore; Athens, Greece; Tehran, Iran; and Monrovia, Liberia. After living and traveling abroad for many years, in 1978 she settled in Manassas, Virginia to raise her children. After her overseas travel and work, Norma went back to school at George Mason University to obtain her nursing degree. She worked for several years as a nurse at Fauquier Hospital and Birmingham Green Health Care Center and also provided home health care. While working she went back to George Mason University to obtain her master's degree in nursing becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP). As an NP she worked at various doctor's offices and Kaiser Pemanente. Her specialty was geriatrics, Norma loved working with the elderly and their families. Norma will be lovingly remembered by her children, Julia and Tom (Bridget), her grandchildren, Liston and Vincent (and their mother Cristy) and Nick and Emmy, her brothers John (Jan) and Don MacDermid, her sister Kathy (Mark) Barker, and her friend and co-parent Tom Goff. Norma will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends. A celebration of Norma's life will be held for family and close friends in May 2020. Norma has been on my mind off & so many times these past several years. We lost touch and I didn't know how to find her. We grew up together in Romulus. This news is very sad to me. Sending prayers to Tom and the rest of her family members.

Though it has been MANY (25+) years since I have seen you or worked with you, I always think of my early years of being a nurse and remember you fondly. I thought about you today and wondered how you were doing. My heart sank when I read this news. You truly had a gift for nursing, you loved the elderly, and were a tremendous mentor to me in my early career. Rest in eternal peace Norma.

I remember you introducing me to Rock and Roll by sitting me in front of the TV to watch the Beatles debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. I miss you. Rest well... I will see you on the other side.
