Norman E. Cox, Sr. who was born in Bothwell Mississippi but raised in Mobile passed away Friday, June 9, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife Susie Gordon Cox, and two sons, Ronald Edwin Cox and Norman E. Cox, Jr. He is survived by Karen Cox Curry, Ava Cox Clement and Robert S. Cox his children; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and Judy McConnell Cox his wife and her sons, Kip McConnell, Mark McConnell and Harry McConnell. Norman is a devout Christian, served as Elder and leader in the Fellowship Class at Government Street Presbyterian Church, one of the founders and Elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church EPC and Christ Redeemer Presbyterian Church EPC. He now is a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church EPC. He served his community well during his life. After WWII, where he received the Purple Heart, Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and Good Conduct medals, he was a Civil Service employee at Brookley Air Force base; He retired and went in to business with his father Avery Cox, at The Paterson Company, Inc. He was a Charter Member of CBMC of Mobile and member in good standing in the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, York Rite, Shriners International, Loop Lodge 895 F&M, 40/8, Abba Temple, Legion Post 3. He served on the Mobile Housing Board and was involved in the Mobile Rescue Mission, recipient of The Silver Beaver award from The Boy Scouts of America and much more during his life. Visitation will be Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Pine Crest Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. A reception will follow services at Covenant Presbyterian Church 2651 Springhill Ave. Mobile, AL 36602. In lieu of flowers it is his request that a memorial in his name go to either: Covenant Presbyterian Church EPC for Church Planting CBMC; Christian Business Men’s Connection; or A Veterans’ support Group of your choice.
