As the football season is now in swing, I think of my great late friend Norm Vargo. We had so many laughs, good times and great conversations on Steeler Road trips over the years. Norm was also one of the most kind, bright journalists I have ever met. He had a true passion for his craft.

I also enjoyed talking Pirates baseball with Norm. We would talk the 71 and 79 championship teams and Bob Prince and the need for a new ball park for the Pirates that was baseball oriented. Norm got to see that happen with the development of PNC Park.

Norm also was a library book on Western Pennsylvania athletes. He could name the entire roster of assistant and head coaches and he would tell you if a guy had ties to Western Pennsylvania.

Norm you left some incredible stories that I still have on Bradshaw, Franco, Clemente, Stargell and Pitt football and Penn State Football too.

Norm represented everything that is good about Western Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh, hard work dedication, commitment to his employer he could have jumped ship to a bigger publication but he like representing McKeesport and that community.

We fondly remember a lift well lived this late summer. RIP, Norm thanks for so many good times and memories.
