JACK WEINSTEIN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 17, 2021.
WEINSTEIN--Hon. Judge Jack Bertrand. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of the Honorable Judge Jack Bertrand Weinstein of the Eastern District of New York who died peacefully at home surrounded by family. Judge Weinstein was born to Bessie Helen Brodach and Harry Louis Weinstein in Wichita, Kansas on August 10, 1921 so he would have been celebrating his 100th birthday this summer. Beloved husband to Susan Berk, father, grandfather and stepfather. Memorial service will be held on July 16, 2021 at 12noon at Temple Emmanuel in Great Neck, New York, 150 Hicks Lane.

It seemed back in the 60s that giants stood at the front of classrooms at the Law School. These giants had there names on books, they treated the law as humane and pragmatic. Professor was surely one of them. There he was in 1967 taking us through Evidence when the president named him a United States District Judge. We gave him a gavel, which he didn't need because Weinstein's voice and manner were enough. Ave Atqua Vale.

A truly amazing man. A giant in the law. A brilliant, creative and compassionate judge. A superb human being. I was one of the very lucky law school graduates who got to clerk for him for one special year. It was without a doubt the best year of my 20-year legal career. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on and on.
