Odie R. Carrier, Sr.
Evansville, Indiana
Odie Robert Carrier, Sr., 83, passed away on July 27, 2012 at Heritage Nursing Center. He was born in Evansville on April 24, 1929 to Thomas O. and Mary Carrier. Odie married Norma Corn and together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Odie had served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post #1114. He worked many jobs, but mainly as a machinist and he retired from Evansville Sewer Department. Odie was devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. In his spare time, Odie enjoyed coin collecting and gold prospecting. One of his greatest joys was his beloved dog, Odor. He had a love for all kinds of animals.
Odie was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Carrier; his sister, Mildred Chittenden; and his brother, Lloyd Carrier.
Survivors include his loving wife, Norma Carrier; children, Odie Carrier, Jr., Barry (Annette) Carrier, Debi (Gary) Doninger, Pam (Tony) Sulawske, Patti (Nathan) Ebrecht, Sandra (Tim) Hinton, Cindy (John) Hilderbrandt, and daughter-in-law, Connie Carrier; 17+ grandchildren, 26+ great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild on the way.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 11:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home. Pastor Gene Backes will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 am until service time at the funeral home on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Odie R. Carrier, Sr. to the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, or to the Vanderburgh Humane Society. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Heritage Nursing Center for the love and care they gave to Odie.
