Olga "Tina" Barnes, age 99, of
Bel Air, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at home in
Millville, Delaware. Born on July 03, 1923, in
Frankfort, KY, she was the daughter of the late Vittorio Serafini and Celide Cleofe (Benassi) Serafini.
A native Kentuckian, Tina was a 1941 graduate of Good Sheppard Catholic High School, in Frankfort, Kentucky. It was there that she met John Arnold (Jack) Barnes and in 1946 they wed. As Jack proudly served in the Air Force, their family grew. As a military family, they experienced several moves - Kentucky, Arizona, and ultimately Maryland. No matter where they lived, Tina created a warm, loving, and nurturing home for her husband and their four beautiful children. Her faith was an anchor in her life, and she was a faithful member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in
Forest Hill, Maryland. She believed in investing time in her community and was active in the church and its many activities. She was especially proud to chair the restoration committee of the original church at St. Ignatius parish, first constructed in 1789. She volunteered for over twenty years for the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and The John Carroll School, where her children attended school. Her devotion to her family was paramount. She was an avid supporter of her children's extra-curricular activities and was "famous" among their friends for her taco parties, an import from her years living in Arizona. She was a proud Italian and took great pride in her native culinary skills which she annually displayed during the holidays for friends and family. Tina was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be forever missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
In addition to her parents, Tina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Arnold (Jack) Barnes. She is survived by her sons - John Arnold Barnes, Jr. (Kathleen) of
Bel Air, MD, Victor Barnes (Kevyn Robinson) of
Millville, DE, and William Stanley Barnes of
Richmond, KY; and her daughter, Celide Koerner (Peter) of
Baltimore, MD; her grandchildren, Olivia Swift (Tyler), Angela Koerner (Peter Soldano), Isaac Koerner, Emily Barnes (Jason Schneider), Hillary Loper (Ian), Camille Barnes (Sean Connor), and Sarah Barnes; her great-grandchildren, David, Elodie, Grant, Lydia, Teddy, Olga, Arundel, Dean and Celide. She is also remembered by her dear friend Sue Foster of
Forest Hill, MD. and the many other friends and acquaintances she made during her nearly sixty years in Harford County.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Ignatius Church in Forest Hill (Hickory), MD. in the old church on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. Burial ceremony to follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Tina's memory to the Christian Appalachian Project,
