Olga Moroz Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun on Jan. 3, 2007.
MOROZ _ Olga (nee Evanchiew) passed away December 31, 2006. Our beloved and cherished mother and grandmother is survived by her daughters Alicia, Donna (Gerry), Marcia, grandchildren Rachel, Selena, Christopher, Julian, Daniel and nieces and nephews. Olga was preceded in August 2006 by her husband Rt Very Rev. Nicholas Moroz. Olga was born on August 6, 1912 in Sandy Lake, Manitoba. She was the last surviving member of 13 brothers and sisters. On November 8, 1939, Olga, a student at the Winnipeg School of Art, married Nicholas Moroz, a theological student. Together they served the Ukrainian Orthodox parishes throughout Western Canada. From childhood, Olga derived spiritual meaning from her painting and achieved recognition as the first female Iconoclastic Artist in Canada. Olga was a woman of many talents and hats, an inexhaustible creative energy, an unshakable positive problem-solving approach to life's many challenges and a thirst for knowledge about every facet of how the world worked. Her entrepreneurial spirit was evident in her designing and painting iconoclastic icons for many Ukrainian Orthodox church altars, initiating the idea for as well as painting the Ice for Ice Extravaganzas in the late "40's", opening dressmaking and coffee shops, and receiving many sales awards while working for a major department store. Olga derived immense pleasure from her spiritual connection to God and by serving her church and the Ukrainian Women's League of Canada. She has been honored for her work with numerous awards. Always time for her family and friends, she had a kind word for everyone and encouraged each to excel and search for that silver lining. She held an undeterred belief in the positive presence and support from angels in our lives. Funeral Service will be held on January 4, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 154 E. 10th, Vancouver, followed by interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. and a reception. Evening Prayers at Holy Trinity Cathedral on January 3rd at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. "Olga, Mama, and Baba, you are now our Special Angel and we will continue to be inspired by you in thought and word and feel blessed to hold you in our hearts and memories forever".
